I have a Dynamix Defender 1200VA lying around that I used for about 6 months, I've have it in the cupboard ever since, is it worth me selling it? I should I just plug it in and use it to power my internet setup and condition the line for me? If I were to sell I would look for $100, I think that is fair?

Anyone have 2cent to share on this?

Depends on the battery state, you don't mention how long it's been in the cupboard. I'd keep it and use it for routers/NVRs/whatever, provided they can handle a stepped square wave ("modified sinewave") as their input waveform.

I was wondering about how to check the battery life ect

I'll connect it to my PC and install the software, but yeah UPS's? are not something that get sold second hand.

Yeah they get sold 2nd hand, usually with dead/dying batteries - think its usually cheaper to buy a new UPS than a new battery in most cases :)

something like a dynamix maybe, but APC/EATON etc no way.

for this UPS its about $30 per battery and it needs 2, vs $212 for the UPS new so still much cheaper to buy batteries

last time i changed a dynamix UPS battery though, it was a right PITA, nothing like an APC UPS, had to pull half the damn thing apart, but still cheaper than buying a new one.

pretty sure they are suppose to be disposable and not have them changed but thats just wasteful considering the rest of the components should be fine

Honestly, its cheap & nasty. Thats why people buy those, they are cheap.
Any one silly enough to buy one used ..............

Replacing batts : where I work we stopped trying to replace batts on the cheap UPS's , even the cheap APC's
We've had replacement batts fail after 6 months , or get fried & fail within a few days .

Is this the rule for all Dynamix', or only the cheap crappy ones? For example are their real UPSes (so anything that doesn't output a stepped square wave, which is a good benchmark for "don't buy" in a UPS) any better?

Yeah, apart from my aversion on principle to stepped square-wave UPSes, a sure indicator of cheap and nasty design, there are some whose output more and more approaches a straight square wave as the battery runs down...

ive used 3 different models of Dynamix ones, in an enviroment which is much much harder on the UPS than the home enviroment (lots of brownouts, and full discharges) and all have been great. ive replaced the battery on 2 of them and they were still going strong.

i only used the smallest ones a few years back and they were both a PITA to replace the batteries.

if you watch the 'how to' video's on the current generation Dynamix UPS's you will notice they are pretty easy to replace the batteries on. https://youtu.be/vMTmaxdemwA

i guess you guys might be talking about the older ones from 5 or 6 years ago?

I use this particular model for conditioning and to hold up my machine/ps4/second switch when the power goes down. Do have to check if your gear works on it though, and I understand the sentiment that non-pure sinewave isn’t the best. A comparable sinewave ups is double the price.

Since this thread I still haven't connected it up but yeah I would have it hooked up to the ONT and Router so I have internet while the power it out. This thread coming to surface might kick me in the arse and get around to connecting it up.
