Anyone have a 3D printer gathering cobwebs? I am looking for something reasonably cheap as its just to have a play with and see if its something I would use.

Thanks.

If you do end up buying new, can highly recommend an Anycubic I3 Mega (i think there is a new version now too) from AliExpress.

Bought from @talkeit's recommendation, and has not disappointed.

If you just want to have a play there are places where you can do exactly that on a PPV basis, e.g. not sure where you're located but if you're in Orkland the libraries have 3D printing facilities and sometimes run free(?) workshops as well.

Should just say as a followup, you should also have a look at CNC milling machines, which you can actually make useful items with. The cheapie Chinese ones are somewhat limited in terms of what they can work with, e.g. no metal, even Alu, but surprisingly good value for money.

I have a PrintRbot that I havnt used in about a year sitting around, is one of the lazer cut wooden models with a heated bed, that I have glass on top of to get a better surface.

Factory says down to .3mm res, I have a couple of mods on it and have had it down to .1mm res.

Can dig up some photos if you want to see it, also have a bunch of different plastics to go with it.

Thanks, I'll check it out online. Did you have a price in mind?

haven't really looked lately, but is probably about 5kg of plastic with it, so a few hundredish, make an offer if you want it

What city.

They take too damn long to completely strip down for couriering

For me , the fun part was the assembly. Thats where you learn alot about the hardware side of it.

I'd say , if you are unsure if you really need one, then you dont really need one :-)

Mine hasnt been used since I assembled & did test prints . Could be usefull here & there but I havnt used it in over a year

Think of it as more a hobby than a really usefull tool (for most people)

Get one with a descent size print bed (say 20x20 cm)

Smaller print beds limit you to printing small trinkets , small bits & bobs .

Also , they are slow . Print runs can take hours on larger pieces .

Cant go too far wrong with that Tevo . approx US$200 shipped

Theres allways some small niggles to sort out on cheapies .

I'd consider seller my Tronxy P802 for $200 . Heaps of spare parts , including upgraded power supply .
