Since PBTech won’t sell to me (I am not an essential business, although I work for one), I thought I’d put it out here.

Does anyone have a recommended supplier on AliExpress?

Thanks for the offer. I’ve heard no and then yes from my work. So I’ll try there this week. If that fails then I’ll come back to you. Thanks!

No worries.
I’ve probably got one in my stock anyway, so you try and I’ll check.

There are other vendors who aren't being nearly as strict as PB for essential Busineses.

While it seems simple to go OK order through work, that's a huge assumption to assume a corporate will allow that.
Approvals, cost centers, fringe benefits etc all come into play.

If its urgent and you are desperate I can make one for you (female connectors would be preferred though - although male is possible but tricky on solid core cable). Pickup would be in Mt Wellington, AKL.

I think people that cannot buy/order what they want should be voicing this through official channels also.

We don't want everyone finding ways around things that they personally think are ok.

Not saying that is the case here, and we all know this has happened so fast that the government couldn't prepare for everything, but if you  aren't included in the essential list, then try and get yourself rather than trying to operate what is essentially _illegally_ now.

I was at PBTech this Tuesday, they ran out of stock but told me they’d be open online during the lockdown as they are considered an essential service. I wish now I had gone home that night and ordered. Instead I waited until the lockdown started only to find they would only sell to other essential businesses.

Work has taken the same approach, I’ve logged a job with our service desk asking for an Ethernet cable so I can connect my my printer to the home network and print to it from the work laptop. I’m happy to pay for it with my own money. They aren’t interested in supplying items for personal use, which is fair enough.

I misunderstood how tight the rules around the supply chain are and didn’t realise my request was considered not congruent with the government rules.

Yesterday, there was a slight relaxing of the rules. Consequently, PBTech’s website states they’ll sell essential items for remote working (and studying from home) to other than essential businesses soon.

So, I’ll wait until PBTech is ready to sell to me. The cable isn’t urgent.
