They are in hot demand second hand but they are also only a bit over $100 on the 2 degrees boardband web site if you can't find one.

Just to add.  The 7390 doesn't do mesh but can be a repeater.  7490 is the lowest spec fritzbox that does mesh.  I have a 7390 I would be happy to sell.  Am Rolleston based.  I think you really want two 7490s.

Ok thanks for the heads up on that one. I assumed the difference was just the 5GHz

I've got a 2Degrees branded 7490 sitting here covered in dust, literally never fired up.

Happy to send it your way once everything calms down a bit and non-essential delivery is back on the boil.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Thanks mate. I will be in touch unless I can get something organised before then.

Looking to purchase a second Fritzbox to create a wireless Mesh network.

I set up a Fritzbox Mesh with a 7560 and a 7490 for my parents in Masterton about a year ago and it has been so terrible that they just spent $469 on a 3-unit AC2200 Netgear Orbi system.

Handoff (or the lack of) between Fritzboxes was horrendous, wireless speeds were shocking (couldn't even keep up with their 2degrees 100/20 UFB plan), their 2018 Samsung smart TV wouldn't even stay connected.

I hope you have better luck but I thought I'd let you know their experiences.

For what it's worth, the Orbi are brilliant, easily keeps up with their plan (can get 100/20 on wifi on a mobile phone from the farthest reaches of the house), no dropoffs or handoff issues yet, and they have a second 5GHz band used solely as a backhaul between the units.

I have had no issues with the Fritzbox mesh setups at all, I have done 2 set ups, one for myself (7530 and 7490) and parents (7560 and 7490) and has been going strong.

as far as I can tell @landcruiserguy must be referring to the cost of $160ish if you sign up to a plan on an open term contract.
I don't see any way to buy one outright

Hopefully this helps:

  1. Log onto your 2 degrees broadband account (you need to be a customer)
  2. Click on extras tab
  3. Click on hardware sub tab
  4. The 2 degrees model is listed as $165 (+ $15 shipping).  I assume it's the 7490 as they changed over years ago but might be worth checking.
