These are about a decade old but are still considered a top of the line speaker, a search on eBay shows them selling for very good prices still.

They are in near perfect condition apart from a small nick on the side of one cabinet which is only visible close-up. The stands have some blemish spots on them but this could easily be fixed with a new coat of paint and only affects the bases. They also have the carpet spikes included.

Looking for $2000 pick-up only (Wilton, Wellington) as I don't have the packaging for them unfortunitly. Happy to take more photos if needed.

PM if interested.

Knowledge in knowing that I helped a fellow audiophile sell their much loved gear, and a new one buy them. Win/Win/Win

I can only imagine the sound from these. I have had a 5 speaker 600 series set up for the last 15 years. Quality, clear and full sound from day one till now. Couldn't part with them.

Do the microphones on top of the speaker work with a DJ setup?

I was so ready to reply to that post but wasn't sure if it was a set up or not :)

Oh I know...

I remember seeing a sign next to a pair of B&W bookies in an Auckland store that said 'These are not microphones, please do not pick up speaker using them'.

I then watched a bloke in his 40's (with his kid standing next to him at the time) read the sign, then proceed to pick the speaker up via the tweeter!! He managed to partially dislodge it from the main body of the speaker before scarpering out the shop!

Great design... but not ideally suited for some retail stores.

I'm sure they sound great. Though I personally don't like the aesthetics.

I assume there's a performance reason for designing the tweeters like that?

Oh gawd, you're asking an audio design question. This field has more woo-woo than homeopathy, phrenology, ear candling, and dianetics combined.

In particular, any argument for putting the tweeter there can be countered by just as many arguments for not putting it there. So probably just aesthetics when it boils down to it. In particular the lump-on-top style is a signature of B&W design. If you want this taken to ludicrous extremes though, go for Cessaro:

Or the bid daddy B&W Nautilus - https://www.soundlab.co.nz/bw-nautilus/8-bw-nautilus-speaker.html

That's the thing with most of the high-end audio stuff, you're paying $1-2,000 for the parts (e.g. a good-quality Celestion 12" woofer is about $3-400 and that's the most expensive single component) and $list_price - $1-2000 for the art sculpture. About ten years ago the top end stuff was going for six figures, now it's not hard to find seven-figure items. They're... well, mostly beautiful bits of design, but I wouldn't pay $1M for them.

Totally agree. I'm more a midrange guy these days. My ears are too old to hear the difference nowadays. :-)
