I've got a fairly decent 27" 1440 IPS (one of the unbranded Korean ones that were very popular a few years ago) that I can't quite mentally justify replacing, but it's dual link DVI only which can be annoying. I've been thinking about taking the plunge on a active adapter but as these are really pricey I'm hoping that someone might have one I could either borrow to test, or one they wouldn't mind me 'trying before buying' just to make sure it works with my particular GPU/monitor combo.

Following with interest. Same boat and don't expect the 3000 nvidia series to come with dvi-d.

@mentalinc

The two main options I've found that are readily available are

Startech DP2DVID2 for aprox $240-250

HP NR078AA, cant seem to get new any more, bit cheaper for a used one via ebay

You seen anything else?

No, I posted a while back, and at $250 it's better to just buy a new monitor. the 7 year old monitor is going to die no doubt. and since i think I only paid 400 or so seems silly to spend too much on it.

Just hoping there is going to be a 3000 series card with DVI-D

Seen people go down this road a couple of times.

Apparently this is the only adapter that will reliably work, which will be the one you mentioned probably.

Supposedly there is a re-branded adapter out there that is either a Dell or HP part that is supposed to work, but I can't remember the part number, or seem to find it now.

Edit - didn't properly read Lias's post. That's the adapter I was thinking of.

ebay link may be worth a punt... but the amazon link is heading into buying a new screen. While note IPS (so i'm not interested) the titan Army VA panels may meet your needs which are only "twice" the price of the adapter or so...

Ah I was thinking of just getting an HDMI to DVI adapter to run these screens (I have 1) - I presume that it won't work?

Correct. Nor will a passive Displayport to DVI adapter work. Only the holy mother of god that's expensive ones :-(

Yeah I've been tempted.. PBTech had a sale on them awhile ago, which was apparently a 1 day flash sale type of thing, by the time I saw it the next day they were back up to normal again or I'd probably have just bitten the bullet.
