Huawei's 2019 flagship, model LYA-AL00, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, Dual SIM & the awesome Leica 40MP triple camera that lifts your photography to the next level.

Purchased 30/03/2019 ex Hong Kong, this model comes Google-free as default by choice, not by dodgy Trump edict. Google services are easy to add (currently has them installed) or remove to your preference. Having the choice is a good thing.

To my mind, this is the best handset of its generation. Packed full of features that just work. Superfast charging both wired & wireless, fast & accurate Face ID & in-screen fingerprint reader, brilliant OLED screen, AI photo assistant, & much more.

Kept in protective cover with tempered glass screen guard since day 1. Colour is Electric Blue which morphs to dark purple at the bottom edge.

Never had any fault or issue, no repairs either.

There's pix on Google Photos

Replaced with a P40

$450 + courier

I could be interested, but just wondering what 'Google free' means?

Google free - Android is owned by Google & typically used as a platform to gather your data & send it to them so that they can feed relevant advertising to you & develop you as an income stream.

We see the apps - Play, Photos, Chrome, Drive etc but there's also the underlying services too. Google Messaging Service transports a large chunk of the Android text messages including WhatsApp, Messenger etc. If unencrypted, they'll scan those too. Being baked into the firmware, it's difficult (without rooting, & even then not do easy) to retain data privacy from Google & partners. Some people find this behaviour discomfiting, the majority though, accept it as the price you must pay for attractive features - like ads everywhere.

Huawei provide an alternative platform for those who desire a Google-free lifestyle. Providing this option has now been forced upon them (From P40 on) by the orange idiot, who has banned US companies from providing technology to Huawei. In the long term, do you think that Huawei *might* create a platform to equal or better Google? They are, without US sales, the world's biggest seller of mobile phones now. I suspect that this will prove to be another addition to Trump's collection of Dumb Things I Did While President.

It's trivial to circumvent the Google block on the P40 phones & isn't a retrospective law so simply an optional install to run Google services on Mate 20 Pro & it's P30 siblings.

OK, so its still running an Android OS, just not some of the underlying Google Services? And they can simply be installed, so that it behaves no differently to any other Android/Google-driven device?
