One option for that hardly used controller is to get just a cheap wired one, whether from TM, AliExpress, 1day or wherever. 

We bought three legit Sony wireless controllers, but I’d wised up by the fourth, and got the last one for about $15 (from 1day I think) - does the job perfectly for that rare time the kids need it.

I have bought a couple of really tatty looking chewed on used ones and swapped the shell and analot stick tops over for better looking ones with printing on them from aliexpress to get some extra controllers. Pretty easy swap out and makes them look new even tho they were dirt cheap used ones.
