Hi all, I am finally going to rack mount my equipment and looking for a 6U rack, ideally has to be wall mounted.  Jaycar have one ($329 since I need the depth for my UPS, which is 550mm deep).

However before I buy this, anyone know of a cheaper option, or have a small rack for sale in Auckland? I would look at 9U or a 12U if it was cheap enough.

Hi, interesting.  I assumed that a wall mount unit like this https://www.jaycar.co.nz/6u-swing-frame-rack-mount-enclosure/p/HB5180 would cater for that.  The UPS is only a 1U but yeah has some weight.

Would you recommend a shelf (into studs) instead?  This is in a home so I can fix it how I like.

Normally you'd use a backboard screwed into studs.

Hi, so thats if you ensure you bolt it well down with a ply back board as Frazer recommends then you should be fine, but I recommend you move the UPS to the rear of the cabinet to reduce leaverage.

Sorry how do you mean the rear? The UPS is 550mm deep, so takes up the most depth. Or do you mean the bottom?

So coach screws would do the job?

Hi!  Nope, no rack yet :-( I had an offer for one from 1024kb but it's not deep enough as I have a rack UPS.  However I am now thinking of putting that outside the rack.  As for filling it, I have a 1U Router, 1U switch and a 1U server to mount.  Plus a couple of NUC's to put on a shelf I do have 2 other 1U servers but they are 550deep.

So, the problem is finding a small but deep rack, or canning the larger servers and UPS.  Any help is appriacated!

I don't know if you got your rack cabinet search sorted yet but I have a BIG Cable Ways floor rack available in Auckland Central.  You would need a large closet or put it out in the garage.  The top is dented (repairable) but does not effect use.  Otherwise in good shape.  More information below. Inexpensive and capable of handling a heavy UPS.  Interested?

Outside Dimensions

Cabinet w/o castors:  880 x 600 x 900 (HxWxD mm)

Cabinet w/ castors:  970 x 600 x 900 (HxWxD mm)

Cable Ways Floor Cabinet on castors – 18 rack units, two lockable Perspex doors and two fans.

Similar to PSCPT2SAV609020 but with 18 rack units not 20.

PSCPT2SAV609020 -    20U x 600 x 900 Fully Built Floor Cabinet (black) with tinted Perspex doors (lockable) with four 80m castors.  Two 110mm diameter fans mounted at bottom of cabinet.

RRP:  $1,636 GST inc + optional castors + optional fans (2)

Hi, thanks for the offer, but I have nowhere to put that!  I am constrained to having it wall mounted.
