We had a minor incident involving the stove which could have been far worse.  Down in the office with headphones on I didn't hear the normal alarm.  Does anyone have a smart smoke alarm they want to part with?  I am thinking Google Nest but open to ideas.

Rather than Nest which are extremely expensive I'd recommend going down the Cavius wireless smoke alarm route.  If all your alarms are wireless they all go off when there is an alarm.  I have them in my house and only had two false alarms over four years but there's no trouble hearing an alarm from down the far end of the house because the one in the room your in also goes off!

Thanks for that.  They are definitely cheaper and solve the main problem.  I am still tempted by the nest ones if I can screw down the price a little.  Might wait for the PB tech black friday sale.  Keen if anyone knows any deals on these at the moment.

There is not really any margin in them (you'll note they never really go on any deals).

You can't put a price on protection of life and property and I also wouldn't go second hand here either...

I brought a nest protect over the weekend so thought I would report back.  First off Nest got brought by google in 2019 which should mean close integration into the google eco system.  The reality is they started merging the two ecosystems, then the pandemic hit and they are still at it.  All this boils down to you still have to install the nest app and the IFTTT integration is broken due to the google merger.  I can install the app on all the phones in the house and they will ring in the case of a fire but my smart displays won't ring and I can't make the lights flash.  It's still a great smoke alarm but I am a little dissapointed.
