I figure someone will have kids who are now older and don't need a piece of plastic to stop them sticking things in mains power points.

Anyone in Auckland got a handful (5-10?) they would be happy for me to pick up?

Worth noting that modern sockets (like 1990s plus) have in-built guards which mean you can't push anything into the active or neutral holes without also pushing something into the earth hole. This basically makes those guards redundant. Obviously some people still choose to use them for extra piece of mind.

I know that's a thing with UK plugs, but I don't believe it to be the case here. How would a figure-8 plug in, which has no earth pin?

Yeah good point - I guess it's more that active and neutral need to be inserted simultaneously?

It has the neutral open the live hole on the ones I have had with it, so you have to put the plug in dead square to the outlet. Not all have the feature. I know the top quality deta ones I got from bunnings do not, and I am glad as it makes putting plugs in annoying.

There are also self switching ones available where the plug going in activates the switch right at the bottom of travel. This should be safer than one with the manual switch since it shouldnt be live till the plugs all the way in.

Thanks, good backup option. I figured I would try and make some minuscule attempt to "reuse" instead of contribute to yet more plastic waste in the world.
