I'm after two Hynix 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-12800 DDR3 desk top memory modules if anyone has them lying round for an old Dell Optiplex 9010 I have as my garage PC. It currently has 8GB (2x 4G) but bogs down going into swap memory over time. Looks like I need need more dual rank 2Rx8 RAM, single rank 1Rx8 and dual rank won't work together in my pc. Dual rank isn't that common looking on Trademe.

PM me with what you have, I'm based in Tauranga if that makes any difference.

Thanks. Steve

9010 should be pretty forgiving with RAM. Have you actually tried those chips you mention together? Assume you have upgraded the HDD in that machine to a SSD at some stage?

Is the RAM in there now DDR3 or DDR3L?

Actually no I don't think I have tried mixing the dual rank with the single. I originally had one 4GB dual rank module and when I was looking for another 4GB I read I needed to have the same otherwise it would cause problems combining the single and dual ranked. A friend had another dual rank 4GB so I grabbed that. Just assumed it would be better to get another 2Rx8 if I could find them.

The RAM in there now DDR3, had to look to check:-).

Yes definitely have SSD in there, that is always my first upgrade on old machines. Thanks for the advice.
