need to recover data off a hdd drowned in the recent floods. the usb interface has failed but the hdd is still functional only encrypted by the interface chipset as I understand.

looking for any usb hard drive that has the initio INIC-1607E chipset or if anyone has any bright ideas how to access the data on drive in another way.

If you care about the data suggest you get professionals to try to do the recovery, swapping chips and boards doesn't sound likely to work.

If you value the data, just send it to these guys: https://www.datalab.co.nz

I may have one lying around, I'll need to look for it.

Have you tried connecting the drive directly already or are you going by this HDDGuru thread?

I used the adapter below with various drives and it worked fine.....

Hi, Yes I tried directly connecting but no file system recognised so looked it further and saw the HDDGuru thread and and some others on the initio chip and how it encrypts, so thought a donor drive pcb with the same chipset would be worth a shot.

My EARS one is still in use for the forseeable future sorry, as it has the broken storage space on it that I need to recover sometime.
