A little niche but various discussions on Geekzone.

I'm needing two Mitsubishi heatpump wifi controllers. There is a official Mitsubishi option, but I've also read about the "home build" ones that utilise the CN105 connector. If anybody had spares, or spares of the cable, or a good supplier, that would be really appreciated!

You're looking for PAP-05V-S. I might have a couple of spare but it will probably cost you more for me to ship them.

Pretty sure I bought mine from RS-Online, but my orders don't go back that far: https://nz.rs-online.com/web/p/wire-housings-plugs/4766798

Digikey also sell them: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/jst-sales-america-inc/PAP-05V-S/759977

Thanks all. Just doing a bit of research as seems there are a few different official versions, and the home-grown one might be much cheaper and much more compatible with HA.

@phrozenpenguin I disagree. I actually ended up getting the official Mitsubishi ones (the MAC-568IF-E) for both my units and they work absolutely no problems with Home Assistant and control is fully local. How it works is you set a static IP on each unit and enable "EchonetLite" on them (available in the app) then use this: https://github.com/scottyphillips/echonetlite_homeassistant in Home Assistant.

The beauty with the official ones is they work, and work well, and have WAF (wife approval factor). I also have mine working with Homekit (via Homebridge), Google Home and Siri. The official app still works too and works away from home + the units are rather secure as they just "fetch" commands from Melview which does mean that control via the official app or Google Home / Alexa can be sometimes a little slower but this way is a little more secure too. Control is however instant via HA or Homekit.

If your budget stretches I'd recommend it. The platform is actually made by a NZ company and I've been very impressed with it.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I have to agree with Michael re using the offical module. It’s so much easier for others in the household and just works. I can automate things from HA and integrate with HomeKit etc but most importantly if I’m away and it breaks the Mitsubishi app keeps working, and bonus it works remotely without VPN unlike my HA setup. Great for pre warming or cooling the house on the way home.

We hardly use the physical remote, almost solely the Mitsubishi app on our phones. The 7day timer is fine and partner can use it without getting frustrated.

Thanks for the additional input @michaelmurfy and @Nate001.

Good to hear that the "EchonetLite" option does work, although the extra steps of HACS on HA has been frustrating in the past. Is this `homebridge-airconditioner-mitsubishi-au-nz` what you use with Homebridge?

When reading I was worried about the slow (e.g. 1min) updates and wasn't sure if everything still worked if internet access wasn't available (I want to be able to control these on the local LAN, without needing internet access). I would intend to block them at the device level so they couldn't talk.

In terms of WAF, whatever system we end up with will be surfaced through Apple Home, and I wouldn't expect anyone to be using the Mitsubishi App.

In terms of budget, the cables for the home grown option are costing $12 delivered and I found a couple of the right Wemos devices at home when raiding the drawer, so the cost is compelling! Perhaps I try one of each and see where we land.

This is what I use for Homebridge: https://github.com/aurc/melview-mitsubishi-au-nz#readme

IMHO, don't block the devices from accessing the internet. They're actually quite secure and their cloud platform is great as a fallback. They do work fully locally and will work when the internet is out too (local only, not via the official app). The cloud platform is even hosted in NZ. Local communication is always instant.

I've got my heatpumps on my IoT network and just simply have a firewall rule to allow my main VLAN to talk to those IP addresses from Homebridge / HA:

I've had this solution in place for 3 years - things may have changed over those years with the custom controller but in those 3 years the official solution has never skipped a beat nor have I had to ever reboot a controller. The NZ company who developed this have done a really good job and I can safely say of all the IoT in the house, this has been the least troublesome.

I use an ESP in one heat pump and the official controller in the other. The wife never uses the official app and my home assistant is up 99.9% of the time. If it does go down, it's really not the end of the world if you need to get out the IR remote.
IMO the savings are enough to warrant going the ESP route, if you have the time/knowledge to get it going. It took me an hour longer than it should have because the TX/RX were the opposite way to what the online tutorials mentioned, ha.

what plugin are you using to expose it to homekit via homebridge?
