Anyone got a 2 or 4 bay intel CPU based Qnap NAS they might be thinking of selling soon? (before I look at buying new)

I've already got a TS-464 setup for home office, but looking for something to setup in a remote location.

Thanks

I recommend being exceptionally vigilant with patching those and NOT exposing them to the internet under any circumstances.

Here you go. This is why I asked about which NAS is best to run totally off the Internet recently.

Think that goes for any NAS.

Perhaps, however QNAP are particularly bad IMO. Bad enough I wouldn't buy one, at any price.

Synology is my Brand of choice.

would just be nice if you post a comment like that, that you back it up with a link/evidence to support your claim.

burden of proof/evidence/info is on the one posting.

and your obviosuly posting because you read it somewhere, and its not necessarly the first result on google. so maybe just post the link to your source as not everyone follows the news on those products.

Just finished setting one up for a friend today, I can see why people like them, they're really well done. Suddenly XigmaNAS isn't looking so flash any more...

Agreed Synology seems like very decent equipment & software design. Once thing I discovered yesterday is that the QNAP NAS can format an external USB drive with various file system options. The Synology seems to only allow you the ability to mout th USB drive, not manage it as such.

Never heard of XigmaNAS, will have a quick look at that.

It's a FreeBSD-based one, forked from FreeNAS (now TrueNAS) when they went too commercial for some. Has the usual open-source curse of not enough developers and those who are available are focusing on getting blingd 0.1.7 working rather than making it easy to use.
