Hey all,

Wondering if anyone has some spare outdoor Cat 6/6a ethernet cable they are looking to get rid of. Wanting to do a run to another room around the outside of the house. Would be happy to pick up etc in the Auckland area (I am on the Hibiscus Coast).

There was some listed by the metre on gowifi when I was considering getting some to run to a camera. Then I remembered that I dont care and just used internal stuff.

Element14 have some under their Multicomp Pro house brand at non-eyewatering prices, however you'd probably better off running generic Cat6 in a bit of conduit from Bunnings.  In particular Cat6 is voodoo to crimp correctly, if you buy a premade length it'll be done right and then just draw it through conduit.

I have considered this, or similar. But I think the conduit will be more visible with a lesser WAF score.  Its not out of the equation completely though.

How much 'less' than 100m are you after?
I have some Opticat (fibre plus cat5/6) - I think it's around 25m, but I'll have to hunt it out and check cat 5 or 6 pairs - if is long enough for you/of interest ?

Probably a tad too short 😞  Thanks though.

Need something like 40m (I've not actually measured it... could be a bit more).

I'm doing similar project (on HBC as well), and just going to buy a 20M run from PBTech. Its around $60 but done and dusted, pre-plugged and I get my internet back in my new home office :D

Running outdoor ethernet bad, unless the external dwelling is earthed to the internal dwelling (which often it is not)

fibre with SFPs at each end is far safer

I'm running from one end of the house to the other via external route. No easy internal unfortunately.

Hi, I dont recommend this for outdoor use, the outer sheath deteriorates rapidly in sunlight, I went to a new commercial install recently before Chorus had arrived, a decent loop of this stuff was hanging out of the outer cladding awaiting connection, but it had been there 4-5months and the sheath flacked off as you touched it.

Same. And on a concrete slab so cant go underneath (which would be quite a short run).

if you go to your local electrical wholesaler they will normally let you take away a roll and bring back the unused portion. (it is metre marked)

you may even get lucky and they have part roll with just the right amount.

Without an account I'm sure you will need to pay upfront and get a refund when bringing it back, but that would be the best way.

JA Russell and Ideal will both cut to length.

Ideal stock it at their Auckland City (Nugent St) branch, you could possibly order it into the North Shore branch.
