My son is looking for a laptop that he can use for work and if possible, some light gaming.

Ideally, he'd be looking at $4-600, and with some form of GPU. I see Trademe has a few a little above that price range with a GTX1650.

Rather than have to deal with the mess that is Trademe, does anyone have something in this range that would they are looking to get rid of?

He can pick up if in/near Auckland.

Not sure if this is too low end, I have a Dell XPS 13 9360 I no longer use.

8GB
i7-8550U
FHD Display
Original charger

Also comes with a Toffee leather slip case

I am in Auckland, would be happy with $350 ono (I had a look on Trademe but the ones on there are the lower end i7-7200u units)

Define "light" gaming? What games does your son play, this info would help to gauge specs required/not required.

I'll just say I saw two 2yr old $2500 Legion 5  laptops die within a year of each other, both were used for gaming and the cause of death: GPU's were running constantly 95c.

Killed the GPU output.

I think he's realistic about what he can afford, so something with a GPU of around GTX1650 levels would be welcome. Main usage would be work or study type things.
