My AEG lawnmower died a sudden death and this is the only part I can find on the control board that is dead. 

 

The problem for me is simply that the 8c replacement cost goes up to $25 incl. shipping from the places I can find online. 

 

Does anyone have one or two lying around I can buy from them?

How about 2x 100Ω/1 watt in series, much easier to find. E24 values >0.25W are bit annoying.

you would need 2x 400Ω 1 watt in parallel.

You have to ask yourself why the resistor is fried. They are normally rated to handle the job so something else is popped and that fried the resistor.

 

Look for nearby semiconductors and test those.

You can get 20 for $8 and then if a semiconductor IS popped, you'll have lots of extra resistors 🤣

 

 

 

I can mostly put my hands on 1/4 W resistors so I generally have nothing lying around in that power rating.

Thanks all. 

 

The semiconductors nearby are helpfully covered in that yellow 'glue' stuff so need to be careful digging through them. I figured i'd slap a new resistor on the board and cross my fingers. If it blows straight away then I'll look harder but it may be nearing the edge of my knowledge to know how to test more of the components.

2x 100Ω in series will work perfectly well. 

 

 

 

Pretty sure we have a box of 160Ω 40W but those are probably a bit big...

 

 

 

220Ω is an E6 value and should be pretty readily available. I doubt it's anything that requires more precision than that.
