What ever you do don't buy the diesel, they are cheaper for a reason.....that reason being they are a time bomb. The petrol 2L/2.5L are extremely reliable

A few years back when we were looking to buy a SUV, my mechanic advised me not to get a Mazda diesel as we live in the city and do a lot of start-stop driving of short distances. The diesels crave on (need) highway driving and frequent long runs for the filter to work effectively, so if that's what OP/anyone is doing, then diesels aren't all that bad - according to my mechanic anyway.

Problem is you're buying second hand, so even if you drive it like that you have no way of knowing the previous owners have. A pre purchase check is unlikely to be anywhere through enough to tell you either - they are not going to check the Turbo or get the oil analyzed to tell you if its on its way out.  Not worth the risk.

I picked my 2018 for 16 a couple years back, it was an absolute deal. But has done a few kms. Ended up getting a cx3, which honestly I wouldn’t recommend one, too small particularly the back seats, my son will need to be in the front seat in no time.

The pricing is attractive, but yeah I’ve heard similar things about the diesels.
Cheers for the advice.
