Odd request - I have a server in Orcon's colo (it's just a PC really) that appears to have a dead NIC. I'd like to find someone that I could pay to go buy a NIC to replace it, and to actually go the data centre to replace it :)

Drop me a line if you're keen.

Actually, this has become a lot easier... the NIC got dislodged when another machine was removed from the cabinet yesterday... it just needs a re-seat :)

I'm on the Shore all Monday, not too far from the Orcon data-centre.  You better make the offer good Cool

Haha... I can certainly arrange a bucket 'o fat, but may not need to with luck - I have a friend who's hoping to go into tomorrow and remove the machine completely for me.. Time to migrate to a virtual server.. no more hardware issues :) (I've heard good things about Linode, and indeed, so far the VPS I have bought is performing well)

I'll give you a yell if that option falls through.

Looks like Linode's severs/data center are in Dallas, Texas. I would have thought changing from Orcon's data center to a central US data center would have pretty negative affects on speed and latency for NZ users.

US West cost data centers near to where the southern cross cable lands in San Jose are usually a good compromise.

They have 4 datacentres actually - I'm using their Californian one. It's mainly for email and DNS, so latency is unimportant.

Oh contrary to the opinions of the other monkeys here, I'm not a big fan of KFC...

No worries about the server, I'm up in the area on Monday if you need me or not.

Indeed :)

Thanks for the offer nate, but It was picked up today by a friend, and I'll be remotely copying data off it from their place shortly.

The problem ended up being a de-seated NIC because the machine was moved on Friday.. the tech I was speaking to yesterday could see that's what it was, and apparently he wanted to fix it, but stupid orcon policies mean they won't do that sort of work on customer machines.

*sigh*.
