Hi all!

some time ago I got one of the best deals ever through this section, so I am trying my luck again.
I am after a PCI riser, but not the type with both male and female connectors soldered onto a small board at 90 deg angle (left or right). I need the type with the mal;e and female connectors soldered to a piece of flexible ribbon cable, so you can position the card anywhere.

to explain why I need it: the mobo has only 2 PCI slots and one of them is made useless by the huge heat sink I have on the silent GT8500 video card. The second slot has a TV tuner. I need to use the second PCI slot.

A flexible PCI riser would be the most elegant solution but I was unable to source something like that in NZ so far. It appears that in the States they are common and sell for few dollars!

Thanks.

I could also make fantastic use from possibly a few of these both from what you have suggested Geforce SiletpipeII card with gargantuan heatsink and also the number of thin-clients I have which have pci slots that are totally unusable due to poorly laid out onboard RJ45 port mounting.

I'm amazed they ae not on Trademe, might almost be worth me importing 10 or so and sending one your way.

Any leads on to the sellers or even more product details? even for the usual 45 degree ones?

paradoxsm,

the standard PCI risers it appears are easy to source, they are on TradeMe as you expected. It is 90 deg, not 45, I do not think there is a PCI riser at 45 deg as it would have no practical purpose.

TradeMe auction: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/Other/auction-223483263.htm
They sell for $15, which would be OK but it does not help me as it requires 25mm space between the top of the mobo PCI slot and the heatsink, but the heatsink is closer to the mobo than that...

This one is only 5mm above the PCI connector on the mobo: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/pci101_flex
but is nowhere to find...

45deg, consider that a blonde moment.

The logicsupply one would be perfect if it came with the longer cable as per http://www.logicsupply.com/products/pelx16_c11
I have 3 mini ITX boards and 3 thin-clients that could benefit from these.

They also have a converter one that converts a single PCI into an extended Dual PCI. http://www.logicsupply.com/products/pci122_dflex. It seems to use a "sniffer" program.

They even have a specific card for my Via EPIA board which is very surprising. http://www.logicsupply.com/products/ext_pcig

Some other neat stuff they have:

IDE 40pin to Laptop 44pin direct cable
http://www.logicsupply.com/products/40_44ata2x40

USB mountable ports, not really that rare but useful.
http://www.logicsupply.com/products/usb200a_2

2 metre HDMI cable fo about $15
http://www.logicsupply.com/products/hdmi2x_200

Laptop ide44 direct mountable flash modules 8-GB, pricey but well-made and an ideal upgrade for the flash on the thin-clients. I use the 4GB standard IDE one (http://www.logicsupply.com/products/ts4gdom40v_s) in my main box as the boot drive.

Notebook Slim CDROM drive to standard IDE converter...

(mostly linked for personal reminders.)

Thanks for the links, they are a little pricey but I may grab a few, use most, send one your way and hock a few off on Trademe, not for profit but just to support like-minded individuals. I'll look up a local supplier first as they had some other unusual stuff 6 months back at very honest prices.

I smell some of my mods finally coming to fruition!!

paradoxsm,

I am definetely interested in the flexible PCI riser I found on their site.
If you really decide to order something, consider me when you get them, please. You might get a good deal as the freight it spread over several items as opposed to me when ordering only one item.

Keep me posted if you go ahead.
I might finally get the DVB-S card I wanted in my HTPC...

Threads a couple of weeks old, but I got one of these from procase.co.nz

I think it cost about $35 + shipping

You actually have to call them as they don't offer an online store

Ahh, Might save on the ludicrous postage just to grab one from that site even though it's a bit more. I just got burnt with a US supplier gouging me on postage for some phone parts an i'm a bit wary.

Thanks for the local link.
