You will need to ring your laptop manufacture as almost all of the license's on laptops are OEM and you HAVE to use your manufactures software e.g an HP laptops code won't work with a retail copy of Windows.

Is it within manufacturer's warranty? Have you tried with the manufacturer's customer service to see if you can a copy of the OEM media for small charges?

You need to get from OEM/Manufacturer. Retail won't able to help much.

Does anyone have Acer OEM Vista Home Premium disks that I could Borrow. Rang Acer they want to charge me $129 to send them the laptop to get a new image put on my new hard drive. Its a load of bull. Anyone with a aceer vista laptop with recovery partition can make them just put and image on the disks and send them to me PM for more info.

Might be useful (and wiser) to put the exact model of the laptop.

I have a genuine copy of vista which I got when I purchased a NEC desktop, it was supplied as an upgrade about a month or so after purchase.

I then changed the desktop to a server running WHS and used the vista disc to install vista on my Acer laptop, used the serial # it came with (despite it saying it would only work on NEC computers!) and it worked fine.

It is Vista Home Premium and as I did a clean install on my laptop I assume it is the full version, not just the upgrade option.

You are more than welcome to borrow it to install if you think your key will work.

I've reinstalled vista heaps of times on HPs, Dells, etc and all you need is any vista disc, and the license key on the sticker on the bottom of the laptop itself. Works fine, you'll need to activate by phone though.

It's easy, it'll prompt you after about a week or you can do so manually in system properties somewhere. You just call an 0800 number, and type in the numbers the automated voice gives you. For some reason it doesn't work very well on telecom cellphones, but landline is sweet.

Yes sent it today although my wife forgot to send it fast post. Hopefully you will still get it in the morning though as you are only just up the road.

Actually the way NZ Post works is a little bizarre. Someone told me that if I post a letter from Gore to Riversdale (about 20km away) the letter gets taken by truck to Invercargill, flown to ChCh to be sorted and then trucked back down to Gore to be distributed to the local postie???? Probably a journey of around 1300km.
