I wouldn't buy a iPad 1, since it's got a limited amount of ram it's not going to be supported for too much longer (just think, the iPhone 3G + 3GS are slow as a dog now)

For a bit extra, you can get a rather nice dual core Android 3.0 tablet, which is far superior than the iPad. I would recommend you take a look - http://bit.ly/mO0HsT

I agree with the ram been limiting however i picked one up last week and am very happy with it all apps run fine and it most defo will be supported in the next few IOS updates, Best bet is to keep an eye on trademe i got a 16gb/3g for 600 in mint condition and couldnt be happier with it
