Preferably without WiFi. Had a look on Trade Me and couldn't find any. Not looking to spend too much.

There are a few on trademe. How much do you want to spend?

A cheap alternative could possibly be a 3G USB Stick with old computer running DD-WRT

I just need a device that converts an existing 3G modem into an Ethernet connection.

Get an old computer and run whatever on it (Linux/Windows/BSD) and bridge with ethernet interface (using 3g usb dongle)?

Alternatively see if you can get one of those Vodafone supplied routers on Trademe as you can plug a usb stick into those.

We have enough computers already and it is not exactly compact ;)
Also, we have the Vodafone router but it only works with the Huawei modems (not the ZTE ones).

I was just looking at this for work this morning, look at PB Tech and you will find a few starting at about $70. I think there was specifically a 3G to Ethernet bridge. Just check that it supports the specific 3G modem. A number of routers are available with a USB socket (for 3G modems only, not memory/drives). Overseas they are very common since 3G (4G) data is so cheap.

You can never have enough Volvos!

There is plenty of Mikrotik hardware that support 3G USB modems.
