freitasm: Google is set to announce something in New Zealand this Monday - I suspect it's the official Street View release here.

What time is the announcement due Mauricio? Will you update this thread once you have the details?

Thanks!

Steve

Google Street View is live now. Even my house in Johnsonville is there - the picture is at least four months old though.

Awww typical - my house is on one of the few streets in Christchurch not 'StreetViewed'. Oh well, gives me a chance to mow the lawn I suppose ;-)

Can see my house in Highland Park - must be sometime ago, as the Countdown at the Highland Park Shopping Centre is still dark green in colour (before the new ugly bright florescent green theme rolled out throughout the country) - but - there are pictures as recent as around 1 month ago on the Pakuranga Highway.

There is an amazing amount of non-urban area covered. Pretty much all the highways are covered. Take in the sights of Lake Tekapo, take the Queen Chartlotte virtual Drive from Picton to Havelock. Travel down the Whananui River.

I am impressed with the amount of work that has gone into this, esp the amount of details in rural areas, you can almost get the impression they sent the camera truck down every single road in nz...
Have found my house, photo must of been taken around may/june as the nearby petrol station says $2/l. Most of the rural waikato towns have good coverage too.

Only the major roads & streets covered in Matamata.

Plus a error on some streets where you place the mini-man on a street (that I am familiar with) and get a view of somewhere entirely different eg a rural location.

What's interesting is the streets that are NOT there, like mine for example - http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=-43.558345,172.589529&spn=0,359.974637&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=-43.556251,172.590403&panoid=hREtzd0r9WCvbHx3vab1KA&cbp=12,147.607743058648,,0,11.852791878172582 is the end of my street, looks like they just drove right past, in fact they missed out an entire block.

Also some interesting errors around Dyers Pass on the Port Hills in Chch...

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=h&layer=c&cbll=-43.605286,172.645163&panoid=59HJ5obcS_ZEBc5bxdDANg&cbp=12,136.35773064228056,,0,5&ll=-43.558345,172.589529&spn=0,359.974637&z=16

Magical intersection, this photo is actually further along the summit road from what in reality is an "X" intersecton, not a "Y" one like shown, it has a missing leg, so you might think it's misplaced a bit and they didn't drive down it, but here's the really wierd part, go forward along the summit road towards the building you see, keep going and you'll come to the "other half" of the intersection, must have been taken earlier in the morning, note the snow/rain on the lens.

We must surely have a GPS error here, the centers of those "two" intersections should in theory be at the same point on the globe :-)
