Hi There!

About 18 months ago I bought a GoLive 1000 Flagship GPS unit from JB.

A month later it wouldn't charge, and they repaired it (3 weeks). It's now not charging again for about the last month, and I called TomTom warranty support who said they wouldn't help as warranty was one year!

Anyone know a number to contact a local person in NZ to discuss it as I don't believe 18 months is the reasonable lifetime of a $500 GPS and I am pretty sure the CGA will agree with me.

Also yes I do know it's JB I need to talk to, but in the past I have had much better responses from the local people.

The fault you describe seems to be common if you have a look at the international tomtom forums, I've experienced it myself. Went through 4 Go Live units of varying version (1000, 1005, 2050, etc) the the battery would only last either a few days to a few weeks. Tomtom kept replacing them then it hit the point where I settled with a Via 180 as I considered the go live series way too unreliable to continue on.

I don't think there is a NZ contact as in all cases my faulty units were sent to Australia.

I know the PR people here. There aren't NZ TomTom folks - all done via Australia.

I just saw that the MY80T Navman is $228 with 2 Year Warranty and 3 Years maps, bought one, selling my go live 1000 cheap, won't charge, but works ok if plugged in.. Make an offer.

Would the PR people be prepared to have a conversation or let me at least send them a polite email ? If so would you mind sharing my details or sending me theirs?

Out of curiosity does a DSE Card give you a discount on all purchases?

Your CGA claim should be with JB being that that is where you bought it from.

Navman? Three years maps? Don't go there without reading this.

I can bring this topic to their attention if you want and see if they can put someone from TomTom in contact. But as said, CGA claims should be taken to your retailer.

Yah I noted that in the original post, but it's SO much easier if we have the co-operation of the manufacturer.

Thanks. Can't really do any harm. It's easier to deal with things if you have the co-operation of the manufacturer.

Thanks for pointing that out, I had been watching that thread. Luckily you couldn't pay me to put Acronis product on my computers anymore after a bug caused me to lose a chunk of my data. Plus their support is the WORST now.

I have Acronis on three computers and pretty happy with that. Saved my bacon a few times. I don't think Acronis is the problem on that discussion anyway - someone pointed out they don't have Acronis and the Navman still fails to communicate.

But back on topic.

Sorry for the Microscopic hijack but Mauricio could you maybe point the TomTom people at the guy on Trademe who is buying old TomTom units, putting HUGE number of maps on them and reselling them - and offering $25 map upgrades if you send him your unit.

It MAY BE COINCIDENCE but he's only offering upgrades to models that are able to have hacked maps loaded.

He answered a question stating the maps were legit upgrades but I am skeptical given the price, and the fact he's selling old units with 65 different maps included etc.

(Problem is it's making it hard for me to buy an old TomTom to rip apart and put into the dash)

Cheers - N

I am told you should contact TomTom through 0800450973. This is the AU/NZ support line, and the same the PR folks use if they need help themselves.

Start with the story from the beginning...

Talkiet, passed that along.
