I'm bored and sitting in a training course in Auckland CBD and I decided to check my pokemon go. I was surprised when I didn't recognised the map and even more surprise when I identified the location as osaka Japan. I assumed a gps glitch in the game so I checked out the Google maps app which confirmed my location as Japan!
So my phone is playing up, but I got the guy next to me to check and he too was in osaka.

Any ideas why our phones would be reporting such a wildly inaccurate location?

Getting the location from a WiFi access point that is recorded as being in Japan.

That's my guess too. I once had Google Maps open in Auckland and it suddenly changed all the street names to katakana for a minute or two, before popping back to English. It was bizarre!
