I have just received one of these;

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Big-Sale-2017-Newest-TK206-OBD2-Car-Gps-tracker-Real-Time-Tracker-Car-Vehicle-with-Tracking/32794874187.html

And need a cheap SIM so I can start configuring it etc.

Just wondering who has the best low-cost prepay SIM out there at the moment? It needs to receive SMS for initial configuration but after that only requires data to send updates.

Probably the Vodafone pay as you go?

Im using a 2 degrees data only sim that was given to my wife while shes on a plan.  No fuss, no top ups especially as 90% of traffic is gprs, rather than sms.

Not sure if it's still an option as with most other sims you need to top up regularly to keep it active.

What will you be poking the data into that the tracker puts out?

I have just setup an instance of Traccar - very impressed with it so far. I believe you were looking at Traccar a while ago? Did you end up using it?

My mobile is with 2Degrees - it looks like I can just buy another SIM and share my data with it via Shared Data. That might be the ticket, no extra on going cost at all.

Yeah I did, but I ended up with GPSGate.  Also free, but windows based - I run it on an azure server (did have it it home, and could again if I could work out an automatic sms when my IP changes).  I'm not sure it traccar had geofencing at the time (or one of them didn't), so I moved off it.

Does it stay "live" though with just shared data and no top up?  You might need to check that.

Yep, definitely has geofences now. I need this to run in debian so doesn't sound like GPSGate will work for me.

Looks 2Degrees could be the way to go! See Twitter response below...

Replying to @SumnerBoy
No need to top it up if it's just sharing your data. :) ^POB

North Island only, but I've not had any problems driving Wellington to TaurangaWellington to Napier, and to @scottjpalmers Carterton paradise.

There were some of them that would store the waypoints till they got signal.
