I just bought nuvi 250 from Harvey Norman. I turned it on for the first time and when I registered it on garmin website First Satellite Acquired date on the website for the unit was shown as a date in the year 1999. Now I cannot get the free map update because of that.

Also I noticed that sometimes when I am not moving(car is stationary) the unit shows me as moving(with speed) and shows the current location around half to onekms away from where I am. Is something wrong with the device? Should I take it back to harvey norman to get a replacement?

Also how much time should it take to find a satellite signal? It takes a few minutes to find a signal.

Thanks

I have never used your model specifically so cant comment much on its performance.  However if you stop the GPS should stop.  They should be correct to within 5-10 meteres!  It is normal for it to take a few minutes to find GPS signal if you have moved locations from where you last turned it on.  but if your turning it on the same place you turned it off it should find the signal almost immediatley..

I have a Navman S series, fantatstic product with no problems!  Consider taking it back and swapping to a Navman, I have also heard good thing about the TomTom's..
