Hi There!

I have a diamond touch phone and I see that its possible to get the tom tom navigator 7 software working with it, and get maps from the tomtom website. What I would like to know is, do you require to buy the navigator software seperately or does buying the maps for NZ give you everything you need? I presume its a download rather than a physically shipped product?

AFAIK there isn't a New Zealand map for  TomTom Navigator. I was told the Windows Mobile software is not compatible with current New Zealand maps.

I am currently testing Nav N Go on a samsung Omnia and it works great. I heard they will start selling it in New Zealand from next month - maps are supplied by Geosmart, a local company, so Points of Interest are updated constantly. Really cool software.

There is maps for tom tom for navigator 7 for NZ, but not navigator 6.

I will look into the other software, does it do spoken step by step driving guidance?

Yes...

Ah, I see. They say "maps only compatible with TomTom preinstalled in some devices". Basically yes you have maps, other people may not have them.

Yes, I would also like to know whether tomtom navigator 7 comes with the maps or has be bought separately (or is it possible buy navigator 7 at all?).  i have also touch diamond with not navigation software.  I have searched a lot of forums and found that nz map for pda is rare.  There is local one goldfinger but i heard its no good.  It seems that tomtom is now the only leading player that sells nz map.  Hope Nav N Go will sell soon.

Nav N Go will be released here in New Zealand this month. I have a demo copy on my Pocket PCs and it's quite cool...

Where did you get the demo? I'd like to try it to.

I contacted NavNGo and they had no plans for NZ Maps or NZ release and were shocked to hear comment of it.. Where did you get that information?

Yeah freitasm, how did you get the demo?  I would like to try it on my Touch Diamond which has been idle as I have not been able to get hold of gps software/map.

All I can say is it's working fine, and it seems to be slated for release later in the month or early next year.

Hi all,

Ive just tested Navigator 7 and installed the New Zealand maps from tomtom and they work fine.

I installed it onto my Dopod D810 aka HTC P3600i. This does confirm that TT7 is not confined to the HTC Touch and Touch Pro editions.

The few things i noticed are:

- Voices from Navigator 6 works with this version.
- Installing over Navigator 6 is fine. It retains the bookmarks made in the previous version.
- Navigator 6 maps no longer work on Navigator 7.

Ive been searching for a GPS software for the PDA with NZ maps for the longest time so its a real joy to finally use it.

Try it out!

Raftcomm,

Where did you get navigator 7 from? Was it included as part of buying the maps for NZ? Did you actually buy the maps for NZ?

I can see TTN6 which ships from the other side of the world in DVD format.

Did you require the use of a SD Card or were you able to install without? The P3700 (diamond touch) has no expansion card.

I would gratefully accept any specific information allowing us to get navigation working in the HTC Touch.

Navigator 7 came packaged with the HTC Touch Pro. I had the software given to me since my friend had no intentions of using it. I therefore registered it on the tomtom website. I copied it onto a USB drive.

Buying the NZ maps alone is not the full package. You do have to acquire the navigator software AND the NZ maps before they can all work.

So we are out of luck as touch diamond does not come with any navigation software.  it is sad that tomtom sells nz map but navigator 7 is not available.  I hope I can find a good friend who does not use gps software.

Just browsing through the tomtom site, it seems a few country specific sites do sell it.

Might be worth trying to buy these perhaps?

Anyone speak enough of any of those languages to know what they are asking pricewise for this in those countries?

I presume the purchase would result in a downloadable file which could be installed, and presumably in the native language as well making it no good for us.

Here is quote from another forum about Navigator 7:

"It HAS been "released" in some counties BUT only pre-installed on some Touch Diamond (or Touch Diamond Pro) phones provided under contract by some mobile phone companies. It has NOT been released as a separate retail product for after market installation in any PDA or phone.

That is why when you go into TomTom's map shop and try to buy maps for Navigator 7 you are given a drop down choice of 9 different variants of the HTC Touch Diamond or Touch Diamond Pro, all supplied by mobile companies in different countries."

It looks like it wont be easy to buy this software.
