Looking online it seems almost impossible to have a Japanese navigation system built into a car re-programmed to work in NZ, but before giving up I though I would check if anyone here knows how/if it can be done? I have found a place that seems to be able to do it, but only for certain models of what look to be high ened luxury cars. I have a 2007 Nissan Dualis, anyone know if I can get it converted to NZ maps somehow?

Is it built in to the dash, or a standard 2 din type unit? If its 2 DIN i'd personally just get a carplay/android auto unit.

Can you take a picture of the dash?

@lxsw20 Appears double din, but feeds a built in external screen. Might still be able to be fed from an after market unit, but unsure. Seen here: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumId=48&topicId=290065

It's probably using a proprietary format (or plugs at least) between head unit and screen.

What I would do, buy a CarPlay/Android Auto Unit. Go to a wrecker and find a lesser spec Dulis dash center that didn't have the screen, and install that for a cleaner look. Or just leave the screen there disconnected.

Even if you can get the factory one converted, it's never going to be as good as CP/AA.

You will need to swap out the JDM Japanese Nav Unit as they use a completely different system which is incompatible with basically every other country.

I went through this on my BMW, the factory Nav unit was Japanese made by Pioneer/Alpine, and I researched endlessly to see if it could be modified or programmed to work here, but it can't.

The BMW nav units can be replaced rather easily though with the German one that works everywhere but Japan so I Imagine yours might be too.

Fwiw the LCD screen in my car is just a monitor - meaning various peripheral devices can be attached to it including Nav Unit.
