I see on the NBR that Navman's new MY units come with built in traffic updates.

In the UK you can purchase an accessory to add this functionality to a S series Navman.  Does anyone know if this will eventually be supported here as well?

Don't really want to have to purchase a brand new unit if I can avoid it.

There's no technical reason why the S-series can't support traffic updates. It really comes down to whether Navman see enough people paying for the upgrade versus the cost of development and testing (on the S-series). There's no way they can make it a free upgrade because you'll need a new release of maps (the old ones don't include traffic data) and Geosmart charge a new license fee for those. This also means that if you buy a Navman traffic module from Australia or somewhere else it won't work - there's no way of figuring out where the events are.

With Navmans track record of updates for older hardware.. I'm certainly not holding my breath that my S series will ever see traffic updates.
