Anyone else playing LoL on a Snap (VDSL) internet connection?

My connection has gone from completely lag-free 150ms to jittering between 150ms and 900ms constantly throughout the game.

It even seems as if packets are coming back in the wrong order (although this could just be a side effect of certain packets getting delayed a lot).

I'm guessing there is a bad link thats dropping packets somewhere en-route to the server or causing random jitter. I've tested on a Vodafone connection, and it works fine.

The server address is 216.133.234.171 but its not pingable unfortunately, just wondering if others have had the same issue.

Haven't had the issue myself - Is your modem overheating? Had a chance to test another one? On a wired or wireless connection?
Can you produce traceroutes to the I.P address?

Think we might need some more into to help you out. :)

Thanks for the quick reply - just started happening in the last couple of days.

Fritzbox doesn't seem to be overheating, as we use VOIP with 2talk and the line is perfect - no jitter, and really decent 1ms 8b profile with great bandwidth - 55mb down, 10.5mbit up - really happy with the speeds!

On a wired connection, we've checked all the usual things.. I'm a software developer and we also do IT support, the VDSL is for my business, just like having a game on my lunch break :)

Just had a game today, was a solid 140ms all the way through - it was amazing, thanks guys!

Really impressed with the VDSL2 service - would recommend to anyone :)

my flatmates are always complaining of Ping issues with LoL, why don't they just get an Australasian server!!!

I'm the tech guy of the flat so always have to deal with their complaints when every other game works fine.

Can you please post a netstat while playing?

To do this,

- Open the game, and start a session.
- Open the command prompt (click the Start button, enter 'cmd' and press enter)
- Into the command prompt, type 'netstat' and press enter.
- Print-screen the resulting output (or use the copy and paste functionality of the command window) and upload it here.

This will give us the exact IP address you're connecting to for LoL (and anything else mind you!) -- we'll then match that to the known LoL IP addresses, and begin investigating.

I was running a packet sniffer called smartsniff previously to narrow it down to exactly the one sending all the packets if that's more precise for you?

A note to the guy above with the flat full of LoLers - you can use a packet sniffer to work out the LoL ports (just grab WinPCap and SmartSniff or another sniffer), then you can set up QoS rules to prioritise traffic if you're using DD-WRT or a modem that allows you to set QoS up. Also you can enable a setting 'Prioritise ACKs' which may help to a certain degree (as well as turning off interleaving with the help of your ISP if you're on ADSL).

Well, if you can see a particular IP address doing lots of traffic when LoL is open, that's ideal.

Interesting you mention DD-WRT. ACK prioritisation is a good idea. However, I am seeing a disproportionate number of complaints about performance and issues stemming from users running DD-WRT lately (I need to go around and actually record who) - specifically those using the ASUS DIR-615.

... To the point where I'm going to ask anyone running a DIR-615 to test with a different router first...

*edit*: this is possibly because these users are more technically literate.

I used to use DD-WRT (On a DIR-615 and a WRT54G2), but I'm not running it any more, as I noticed both the routers slowed max download bandwidth when compared to a standard ISP modem/router on its own.

The IP address thats sending all the traffic is 216.133.234.153 port 51003

Interestingly it doesn't show up on netstat (or netstat -a) although a couple of others in the same subnet do:

Hi I'm also have intermittent lag / frequent disconnects in league of legends with snap in Christchurch. Ping is now around 190ms , previously was 140ms. I'll PM you my details.

hmm my flatmate has noticed the same thing - he would complain to us to stop uploading as his LoL session is lagging (and there's nothing being uploaded at the time), could possibly be related?
