Hey guys.

Over the last 2 or so weeks I've been having some strange latency issues with battle.net, Basically my latency reads around the 200 mark but it feels like 500-1000, then bang on 9pm it'll drop down to 150 and everything runs smooth as.

Tracerts show some slight higher pings before 9pm, but nothing that explains why its bouncing around between 500-1000.

Any ideas? I don't think its packet loss, and no one else on my server is getting this issue. I don't think its computer related as all the issues dissapear late at night, I would say congestion but seeing as though I'm the only person on my cabinet.. I don't think its that either.

Any ideas? (on the snap 100/50 fiber plan)

Here's a tracert which doesn't help explainanything :s

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

I am the Geekzone Robot and I am here to help. I am from the Internet. I do not interact. Do not expect other replies from me.

Hmm, it's a little hard to tell what's going on there because the tracert isn't able to be completed and the IP itself isn't pingable.

Post a tracert of what you can see after 9pm anyway and I'll try to remember to do the same.

I'm the only person on my cabinet all day everyday. I've got it all to myself :)

There's a definite drop in latency, but it still doesn't explain why I get 500~ pings before 9pm, the difference between the pre 9pm and after 9pm is only like 50~

Which hop is the 500~?

Some routers I've found respond to trace route slower than ping at times. But that IP won't ping for me or finish a trace route on.

At the moment 9:56 I'm getting around 207ms, take in to account I'm 20-30ms more on ADSL.

Believe what you want I don't really care, I got to test fiber for snap when it was first installed back in june last year, we had some of the chorus heads even fly down from auckland to install it & make sure everything went smoothly. I've even had them knock on the door when they've been fiddling with the cabinet to make sure they didn't knock us off because like I said, we have it all to ourselves(Which was told to me by the chorus employees working on it).

Although just looking outside now the footpath has been ripped up, so this may no longer be the case, This could also be the issue.

There are no hops that are above 300~ ping, which is why its so confusing. As i said in my first post, the latency reads 200~ but the delay on everything is definitely 500-1000 (before 9pm) and then bang on 9pm the latency still reads the same but its a lot more responsive

Using an in-game mod to show "real" latency, every cast has a delay from 500-1000, but the ping reads 200~.

It's also very skippy, people blinking around the map etc, but from my tracerts etc I see no packet loss, which is why I'm so confused...

Blizzard doesn't allow you to ping their servers, it's to prevent ddos attacks etc.
