I had VDSL for the last 2 days but it seems speedtest are indicating my speed are 9.5mbps/1mbps where when I was with ADSL it was 15mbps/768kbps.

I'm in Mount Roskill, Auckland and I'm about 1km from the nearest exchange.

I'm sure I was on UCLL ADSL before

This is the approximately how far the exchange is to my house

Why is my modem showing 20mbps when I'm only achieving 9mbps.

Maybe I should wait a few more days?

What are your opinion about my line?

My modem shows the following stats:

B0 Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 1142

B0 Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 20594

Downstream Upstream Line Coding(Trellis): On On SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 87 90 Attenuation (0.1 dB): 303 0 Output Power (0.1 dBm): 185 105 Attainable Rate (Kbps): 21211 1137

you have reset your modem and router
your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing - you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

you should be seeing 20mbps there or there abouts in a speedtest. why you are not is probably down to an issue inside yor network or its not been configured correctly with your ISP

768 up sounds rather like a pulled out of nowhere number.. if that was accurate for on UCLL for that distance, i would say look at your internal wiring as likely you will get a reasonable boost cleaning that all up.

If you were on UCLL before, its very likely you were on 6dB and the move to chorus gear again met with a SNR change.

your modem is showing 20/1.1 there, which would show about 19/1 on a speedtest are you testing hardwired to your modem? no other activity going on.

you could request for a tech to come out and do it, 150~200 i think is the going rate for that.

Considering your in auckland @coffeebaron would probably be a cheaper (and more trustworthy...) option.

May also be worth considering your set for Year 8 fibre rollout there.

based off the shapemap it looks like MDF paths really arent in your favor - as in the line is not directly to you at all.

The map you posted above is somewhat missleading in terms of distance, your looking at about 1K at best. Borderline for VDSL, ild bet actually within the "Extended VDSL range"

whats your attenuation figures there?

also, obviously wait out your 10 day DLM period, most isps wont want to touch a VDSL line until that unless its rolling back..

It says i won't get Fibre till 2019.

I have no idea why I have to wait this long since places around my area has fibre.

Sandringham, Mt Eden, Just the top of MT roskill has fibre I believe.

I'm like stuck in between on stupid copper and I'm wanting fibre the most.

If I knew VDSL was so bad I wouldve stayed with ADSL but a decrease in speed was unexpected.

VDSL by nature, being PTM rather than ATM is actually faster even if at the same rates. less overhead in the encapsulation.

Fibre is pretty close to you, but unfortunately someone always has to be last...

Attenuation (0.1 dB): 303

The figure look kinda weird?

thats 30.3 dB, really rather far end of VDSL and pushing it.

as i said before though, based off your ADSL numbers you gave, you line doesnt sound the cleanest. thats purely an assumption and without digging into graphs and testing cant really be definitive about that.

I wish the tech gave a more insight to my line.

He did mentioned I'm a bit far but didn't say it was terrible. He said probably in the mid 20s.

sadly they arent always very helpful at all..

its why i make a point of getting them to talk raw numbers, attenuation, snr etc which i can put more realistically to a value.

20s is what you are getting currently though, which makes the 9 a bit off. potentially a handover issue on orcons side even.

I'm surprised they allowed the install with that sort of attenuation I thought there was an upper limit where they'd just say no

The limit was 10.8dB which was increased to 15dB at the end of April after the 998 bandplan change.
