29/10 EDIT: International speeds to Australia are all good now! Smile But speeds to USA and some other countries are still terrible Cry

28/10 EDIT: Issue appears to be intermittent, some nights good, some nights not so good.

23(pm)/10 EDIT: Issue has resurfaced :(... knew it was too good to be true.

23(am)/10 EDIT: Issue is resolved, thanks Orcon!

22/10 EDIT: It appears this issue only began yesterday, an old problem that has returned again.  Let's hope for a speedy resolution this time.

21/10 ORIGINAL POST: So the previous thread was locked.  People deserve to know that Orcon has still not resolved their international bandwidth issue which is particularly bad on their LLU network.

This issue started back at the end of April 08 and still continues!

Right now I am getting speeds of 10,000kbps locallly and 60kpbs to USA. I have logged countless help desk calls with no resolution.

All aboard the failwhale.

So... what is the root cause of all this?

International traffic has been pretty bad for me since around midnight last night and has been crap for the whole day. Prior to this I've not had too many problems.

Local traffic is fine though:

I've been with Orcon for about six weeks on one of their LLU plans (Takapuna exchange) and speeds were great 24/7 until late today. NZ speeds are still fine, but I can't even complete an international speed test on speedtest.net! The most I can get is about 105kbps to LA and about 160kbps to Sydney before the tests stop working.

What's going on?

Welcome to Orcon, this may be your first slow international encounter, but expect many more frustrating evenings.

Is bandwidth purchased monthly?

More likely NZ got capped.

Well speeds have been generally fine for me the past few months, however today was exceptionally bad. I did a speedtest for the first time in 3months and got normal results for auckland.

Any international destination was a different story...

I'm pretty sure things were fine yesterday, this possibly started last night?

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing problems. Don't laugh at me, but hopefully it's just a temporary problem with something!

Exact same behaviour for me. Also 'capped' at 106kb/s as some others have mentioned. CBD. ADSL2

I just did a whip around the other forums here and whilst Slingshot and Snap appear to be having issues ongoing international issues, nothing seems to fit exactly the same profile as what we have today.
I have been keeping an eye on the forums here this evening but thought it was just me. Now that I see it is more widespread I wonder if someone has logged a ticket already?

Ive been afflicted by these slow international broadband speeds.  However, local sites in New Zealand seem to be quite swift as shown below:

http://einkey-pickledhamster.nztechie.com/2008/10/speed-test-results-for-my-new-adsl2.html

I did a couple of tests and the slow response is coming from the good-old Global-gateway again.

Orcon not buying enough bandwidth?, a routing issue? or is the Telecom gateway getting saturated?
