So I changed from Orcon to Slingshot and my international ping to North America is considerably worse in gaming, has anyone else had a similar experience? is it worth opening a support case to see if there is anything they can do to help?

For context if I use a VPN such as Proton VPN Free, I have about 80 less ping than if I do not use one at all, when I was on Orcon I would have 100 less ping to North America as well.

My knowledge of networking isn't amazing but suspect this is a routing issue?

@lNomNoml They are providing you with what you are paying for ' internet access ' Do you have SLA agreement on ping times with the ISP?

Did anyone from the sales team tell you that ping times were going to be lower / better and why do you think it is a routing issue?

Yes I know that but didn't expect it to be noticeabily worse considering they are supposed to be under the same group now, no didn't expect it to be lower but at least the same.

How are you testing the ping?

Orcon and Slingshot are actually the same ISP (owned by 2degrees). You’re literally on the same network still.

I get the feeling what you’re experiencing is simply coincidental. Routing changes can happen at any time but doesn’t necessary mean a routing issue, it’s just how the internet works.

Orcon and Slingshot are on separate IP ranges, you could ask them to change your IP address to one from another IP range for Slingshot e.g. between 119.224.x.x and 124.197.x.x. Your public IP address can affect how traffic is routed at each end or at each hop/ISP in between for load balancing reasons.  You're going to need to post up some traceroutes if you suspect a routing issue.

While everything has come together logically under AS 9790, there's definitely some level of heterogeneity with 2degrees' broadband in terms of multiple BNG vendors and domestic core networks.

Thank you will give that a try, so far using Proton VPN Free to NA central is helping to get around the issue and produce the expected pings :)

I get random disconnects now while using the VPN, so kind of frustrating that I have to choose between having abnormally high ping or low (expected) ping but random disconnects.

I thought 2degrees were going to roll all these brands up?

Sure, but why wouldn't they just put a stop-sell on them and only have the 2degrees brand going?

2degrees are slowly merging all the companies. With Flip being one of the first. They’re realistically just rebranding but do need to do a bit of backend work. I’m assuming the MyRepublic migration may have put a delay on the Vocus migrations.
