How to contact Luke from MyRepublic.?

I have the same issue with radio stations on 2Degrees as I did with MyR.

Luke was able to make my preferred stations work for a few months, a difference to the 2D support, who seem to put it in the 'too hard' box.

All they do is reset the connection every time, and imagine it is fixed.

cheers CD

Mod Edit: MM - Updated title.

@2doobre What do you mean by Radio stations? You really need to put more context to your post as MR do not run radio stations

Linux:

@2doobre What do you mean by Radio stations?

Since 2017, I was on a MyR business fibre essentials connection, and now 2D business fibre, all along I have found that http radios stations (NZ internal and external) I listen to are rebuffering, and reconnecting on a fairly regular basis (every 2-3 mins at it's most annoying times).

FLAC and HLS streams are not affected, neither are video streaming like YT, SkyTv, Samsung TV plus which stream perfectly at the same time as the http stations would buffer - rebuffer - reconnect.

Listening to the exact same http stations through 4G data remains unaffected at the exact same time also.

When LUKE was at MyR he did something that sorted it out for three months or so, but no-one at 2Deg seems interested, so far. I was hoping that Luke moved over to 2Deg's. Hopefully..........

So trying to get in touch with Luke to advise.

We did many tests and boiled it down to something external to MyR hardware, now 2Deg's hardware.

cheers CD

95Bfm, RNZ National, RNZ Concert

SomaFm - Groove Salad Classic, Heavyweight Reggae

Radio Paradise - all streams (except Flac streams)

Hi on line - all streams

Comedy 104 topeka

iHeart HLS stations are fine

BBC sounds HLS stations are fine

It makes no diff whether streamed through their own desktop app, or browser or VLC (of course VLC will not reconnect) they will all start rebuffering eventually, while at the same time video streaming is perfect.

All are perfect when listening on 4G data.

Conclusion so far

one possibility is network could be "traffic shaped" in some way. The ISP or Chorus has decided long continuous streams are podcast or file downloads which are not time critical - whereas I am streaming audio and the data is time critical.

2degrees doesn’t traffic shape. Also MyRepublic doesn’t exist in the ISP space anymore.

I don’t think this is an ISP problem.

What do you expect them to do if you've already established not their issue?

Perhaps give some examples of where you are actually streaming from, URLs to test.

If it was being "shaped" or whatever by chorus or someone else external to the ISP, how else to get attention but to go through the company that supplies the ISP.!?

I have given 2Deg examples already, but as i mentioned, it seems to affect all http stations, and not HLS or Flac or video

Chorus are not shaping your radio streams.

Again, if you provide some example URLs that you have problems with then others here can test to see if they also experiance an issue.

Tried a few of the stations you listed above. Ran them for quite a few minutes - obviously not hours. No problems at all for me (with 2degrees).

As others are hinting/stating - its unlikely to be 2d or chorus. Much more likely to be your side of things to be honest with you (e.g you have something saturating your bandwidth).

Edit: only thing I can think of, and its massive guess, is if you're running a stream for hours, youre on CGNAT and its dropping the session somehow.

Surely if there was something running that is saturating my bandwidth, then video streaming would be affected.? and the higher bandwidth of FLAC also?

I have a static IP and 900/300MGb connection, is that relevant to CGNAT

Static IP would mean you are not on CGNAT.

found this in the 2Deg info pages

----------------------

Changes to IP Addresses (CGNAT)

If you've heard mumblings about something called CGNAT, and you’re wondering what it is, read on.

Carrier Grade Network Address Translation or CGNAT is a new way of giving out IP addresses, that are private instead of public. Don’t worry, the way you use your broadband generally won’t change, so your browsing, streaming and social media will keep going as it does today. The only difference is that your internet connection will no longer have its own public IP address, but a private one instead. If you’re a bit more of a tech head, there may be some changes to be aware of, so keep reading.

Why is 2degrees using CGNAT?

Our IP addresses are a little thin on the ground (shocking I know, but there’s a world shortage) so we’ve moved to CGNAT to make sure we can keep offering IP address services.

Who does it affect?

If you’ve got a broadband connection with a Dynamic IP broadband connection (not a Static IP), then you’ll be moved to CGNAT. Customers with a Static IP are not affected.

Will my broadband service be affected?

Any service or outside connection that is designed to reach you via your device’s public IP address to communicate with your modem won’t work. You may also notice an impact in the below.

  • Multiplayer video games where you’re hosting a session/server
  • Website hosting
  • Services or devices that rely on port forwarding
  • Torrents will only be able to establish outbound connections
  • Internet-enabled devices that are reached by IP address (e.g. IP cameras/security cameras)
  • Remote access to home network storage, backups and remote desktop service
  • Services that rely on Dynamic DNS (DDNS)
  • VPN servers
