How does 2degrees offer 9 cent text messaging to any nz network? howcome vodafone and telecom offer 20 cent texts on prepay but 2degrees can offer it for 9 cents? how much do termination rates cost for sms? 2degrees uses vodafone's network to roam in no coverage areas so how can they use vodafone's network and offer 9 cent per text? if they are running at a loss with text messages i wonder how long it will last.

vodafone and telecom may offer lower priced text messaging deals but you have to be on a plan or have an addon to get them yet 2degrees offer 9 cent text on prepay without a plan or addon which is great. i bet vodafone and telecom are going to lower their text messaging cost from 20 cents to 9 cents now otherwise loads of people will probably switch.

From what I know SMS is basically pure profit, the standard was made to take advantage of spectrum that cellular calling didn't use. The only fees they have is maintaining the backend, not sure of the disconnection fee though.

But I'm maybe wrong

VF and TCNZ are still cheaper when it comes to texting. Eg: 600 texts to any network on VF costs: 0.02 a text.

how about compass $10 for 600txt to anymobile is NZ... this is only 0.017c per text :D

really, 2degrees just NEEDs $6-10 for 500-600txt to any nz mobile. then I'm bought :D

Nice, never did the maths.

$30 for 600TXTs to any network, and then 25C per min to any network.

or $28 for 2K txts to Two degrees, Black and White and Vodafone mobiles and then 25c per minute to any network.

and then 25c per MB (which is reasonable once you go over 10MB compared to Vodafone or Telecom)

looks like COMPASS is better deal after all hahaha, but that for people who spend $40+ a month I guess on talking and txting =! not me.

my understanding from when I used to work in the industry was that it costs about 7 cents + GST to send a txt message from one network to another.

3.5 cents to telecom
vodafone charge telecom 9.5 cents but have a secret deal with 2 degrees

XT's 1500 txt to any network for $18 is only 1.2 cents per text (or 0.9cents if you take into account the bonus credit you get with a $60 prepay topup).

Compass Mobile @ $15 per month for access, 25cents per min (any network, anytime), and 600 texts to any network for $10 not to mention per second billing looks like the best deal to me!

From what I know (correct me if I am wrong) texts to 21 countries only cost 9 cents too? If that is the cose it is AMAZING vs Vodafone's 25c for international texts.

"9c to text and 44c to call any mobile or landline in 21 countries..."

I'd hate to point out the obvious but have you considered that 2degrees simply don't care about the $10 per month users who would simply lose them money? These types of customers are unprofitable.

Not every user out there sends hundreds or thousands of SMS's per month. Many want cheaper voice calling and this is the market they have targetted.

with the low end range of phones they are selling i would have thought they were targeting them. also these type of people dont tend to use alot of data, hence that is why the chagre is so high, (50c/mb i think?)
