Earlier this month I called 111 coz of some guys on skateboards going down a busy street with trafic. I checked my bill the other day and noticed I was charged for 2 minutes of calling and I didnt remember making a chargable call, I checked again today becuase i was told it would have to update, and I saw that I had been charged for calling national landline "011-1". It was on the date I did call the police and the exact time so I know it was to 111. Surely this cant be right? What if I was on prepaid or something and had no credit? Then I wouldnt be able to call them if it was a life threatening emergency. Anyone else had this?

What phone company are you with? This is what Telecom say:

http://www.telecom.co.nz/content/0,8748,205388-1133,00.html

i.e. it's free unless you make a second false call in a month and then you get a $6 fine.

Are you sure that there is a $ value, as 111 calls do appear on phone accounts and the time for the call duration is shown but normally it shows as $0.00

Yes I'm with orcon, this was made on my cellphone.
It was a chargable amount, 2 minutes at 61cents a min. Shows there $1.52 for this months calling, + GST on the final amount aswel. I've only ever called 111 3 times, the other 2 were from a vodafone mobile and a telecom landline and were like years ago, deffenetly not faulse calls either.

Intersting, I have made several phone calls to 111 while my phone was in my pocked locket (thanks to the phone being able to call 111 when locked) and even had a person from the call centre ring me back to make sure everything was ok.

Never charged *was on prepay*

Doesn't answer the question, but *555 would probably have been more appropriate.

Yeh I didnt know about *555 until some research group called me back yesterday to ask about my 111 experience. Thought it was a joke at first. And thanks for calling me a snitch but one of them nearly got hit by a car pulling out of a give way and if they had fallen over I might have run them over, pretty dangerous and stupid. I would have called *555 if I had known about it at the time but obv. I didnt. I called Orcon just now and they said they would take care of it. Didn't tell me why I was charged to begin with.

Ha ha, bad Raab!

We need a gloves off section in GZ, a place where mods fear to tread. Somewhere where you can go and hurl abuse with immunity, a Troll Hole in fact.

Off topic, but I had a funny thing happen a few years ago, where the largish company I worked for used to receive a paper phone bill the size of the yellow pages each month, which used to come past me for "checking". My checking usually consisted of simply passing it on for payment, but on this occasion, I noticed that there were three 111 calls made over a 10 minute period at a weekend. No charge though.

I dived into the internal PBX call logging system to see which extension they were made from and discovered they were from my extension! As I hadn't been at work that weekend, I simply assumed someone had had their kids at work. Open plan office, so could have been anyone.

It sounds to me like their billing system just isn't configured properly. It should be free and if you can be bothered ringing them they should refund it and fix it.

111 calls should be free pure and simple, this will most likely be a and simple billing issue, why don't you just ring them and let them handle it... probably be solved quicker than the time it actual took to write this post ? .... lol

Yeh I did call them and they said they'd sort it out. Just wrote that while I was in a free period because I wanted to know if anyone else had it

perhaps that would have been good to add to the original post don't you think, would have let every body know right from the start Orcon were aware of it and would sort it out
