I am helping some friends who are not very tech savy with an issue with their internet connection.

They unfortunately forgot to pay their slingshot account and got their internet disconnected.

This has since been restored but now they have issues with getting to some sites and revcieving some pop mail via Outlook. One email account is Yahoo and the other is slingshot.

The other strange thing is that facebook will not load. you can get to other internet sites such as google, yahoo, trademe etc. This is the same on 3 seperate PCs in the house.

No setting have changed from before they where disconnected and the DSL modem is connected and all settings seem correct. Was thinking maybe DNS and checked DNS in the modem and this is seems to be Slingshots ones in the modem setting (set to auto to get DNS from SLingshot)

The friends called slingshot but got told that it must be a microsoft problem. I think somethng has gone wrong with the reconnection. I waiteded on hold for 40min and then gave up.

Anyone got any other suggestions on what to try?

Would be good to know the following:

- Old Plan
- New Plan (if changed)
- ADSL Stats (speeds, noise, etc..)
- Confirm ADSL router isn't configured to blacklist specific hosts
- Can you ping, resolve & traceroute/tcptraceroute www.facebook.com (pls include results)
- DNS Servers in use (in theory desktop will point to the router and the router should default to the isp's DNS severs)

Additionally:

- Confirm if there are any proxies in your way (not 100% accurate - but worth a shot): http://www.lagado.com/proxy-test
- Try using other DNS servers on desktop & router (OpenDNS is an option)
- Test connectivity using a service like t0r
- Test with another router

Ideally the more tests and information provided will assist in identifying where any issues could be.
