doug3: After the first 3 or 4 I did not bother with the clues as they were dropping the pin at 7am and then posting the clue at 8am.

Used 2 iPads, with first iPad before 7am zoomed Data Hunt map down to cover all of NZ with 5 screenshots, after 7am with 2nd iPad zoomed to the same level as the screenshots and compared the numbers, this made it easy see where the extra pin was, no clues required.

No worries, this was just to remind you that if you have a friend use your code when they sign up, you'll get double data on your next pin! :) Just tap "invite friends" from the app's menu to share your code.

Cheers, ^BRM

Now I’ve got a full 10Gb and am ‘finished’ the game, I still keep getting notifications of people having been recommended by my intro code.... if only I got THEIR first spin added to my ‘free’ data I think the reasoning for keeping reminding friends would remain for longer?

Especially as that is all the app will allow me to do now that I have collected the max myself too.

I am driving down to Rotorua and just outside Matamata I spun two data points. Then I received this notification

I called customer support and they were able to lift the ban. They explained that the game is meant to be played on foot, and because I was travelling at approximately 100km/h between points it assumed that I was cheating. I was advised not to play in the car again as a similar ban may result which cannot be lifted again.

This information would have been very good to know upfront. I'm sure many others are travelling over this holiday period.

I'm done.

After 82 data pins (not one of them gold or green or anything other than blue), I have received my 10gb.

I have to say it was nowhere near as enjoyable to play this year...lack of gold pins, many pins of 50MB or 75MB and generally glitchy and slow to respond (iOS app).

I'll play again next year if it is back, but I want it to be more interesting and better executed...

BUT I DID ENJOY GETTING SOMETHING FOR NOTHING...

2016/17 I found it fun to load up the app and see if I could see gold pins.

2017/18 I managed to collect most of the pins in Dunedin and only ended up with 1.9GB of data (there are a few pins that required more effort to get to .. I might bother myself one day)
Without golden pins, I doubt I will collect 10GB this time around.

On Android the app was just as slow and buggy as it was in 2016/17
Still nice to get free data though

I've had a play in this and am up to 1.9GB so far. Hopefully get another GB or so before it finishes (does anyone know the end date?).

I agree the app is very hard to use. It takes very long to load, for some reason defaults to africa when it first loads and hasn't got a GPS lock yet, then when you find a pin why does it take about 30 seconds for it to spin and tell you the amount you have won. Just seems very clunky if you ask me. Still free is free, just feel it could be done much cleaner.

Yes, app is very slow even on 4G with an iPhone 7+... sometimes I’d get the txt saying how much data I’d earned even before the flag stopped and let me ‘see’ it 🙄

On one occasion I got the text immediately after clicking 'Let's go' IIRC! Seems like the system has been designed not to bother waiting for the user to finish spinning before it processes the event. It also suggests there's some sort of script that runs at a fixed schedule and I just happened to click 'Lets go' at the very last second before the script ran over recent events.

Up to 4.7GB now and I believe it finishes at the end of Feb or March so no hurry for me. The exact date will be in the T&C I believe.

Finishes early Feb, which means I won't be able to add any data to my collection as I won't be heading to any new towns before then

I noticed yesterday that all the points I'd already collected were now active again, so I've been re-visiting them all to complete my 10GB.
