Something has been changed and the issues I had experienced are no longer an issue.

Cudos to Snap!

Sigh. Come on Snap... I was just starting to enjoy 720p.
Videos that are already cached are lightning fast... but it's really struggling with unpopular videos tonight.

Things got even better a week ago - 720p streams fine and now that I am on VDSL 1080p loads even quicker too

Must say that my experience last night on the three videos I watched (360p) was poor (not terrible, but poor) compared to previous weeks. General buffering times was longer than the video, and in two of the three videos I had to refresh the page (Chrome) to get things working again.

Oh snap!
What went wrong last night, performance on YT was very very poor.

I only watched one video (1m, 20second) and it buffered for over 12 minutes.

This is getting beyond a joke, cmon and get it sorted, it's been months!

If you aren't capable of fixing it, get some outside help.

Hi All,

We have checked with our NOC and it looks like some of you may be on a test subnet used when troubleshooting YouTube Issues. We have now removed this (as of 11:45 this morning) so can you let us know if this improves your experience? - If you check your accounts later on we will make sure you are looked after :)

Also @BraaiGuy, our add-on is purely based on accounting, what using a VPN will do is pull your Youtube data from another source which won’t be recognised by our IP Accounting, but hopefully it should all be good now, let me know how you go without the VPN now.

Thanks

LOL WOW! Unbelievable, what a difference. I am not even a SNAP customer, so I am not sure how that change you made affects me, but it's the best I have seen YouTube for a while.

Well, I've only checked once so  far, but I was able to skip through a video playing in 1080p (as in "click randomly in the progress bar") which I was never successfully able to do before with HD videos, and the grey line was well ahead of the playback which is unusual too.

However, before I get too excited, I will check back around 7-8pm or at some other notoriously slow time of day.

Honestly if its a 6 minute video 4 minutes is still fine? You wont buffer at that speed - I know that the Google CDN will only download at the speed it has to so i dont really see an issue with that.

frizianz:
- Youtube will only download the video at the speed that it requires instead of bursting to 20Mbit and finishing the 5 minute long video in a matter of seconds it will download at say 10mbit. What this basically means is that you can serve twice the users on half the bandwidth, because seriously why waste the bandwidth if you don't need to?
