Yes, I can confirm a increase in speeds. Torrents are up to a whopping 1.0MB/s, compared to about 30kb/s I was having beforehand. However some torrents still like to go around 30kb/sec. Most times, downloads hover round 100kb/s. But still better then before. Upload speed is still as crappy as hell.

I will include a photo.

Was that 1MB/s coming from the cache or other real peers?

I just downloaded the latest Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit torrent, and it was anywhere between 1.0MB/s - 1.7MB/s.
All coming from real peers.

I'm assuming, if it was from the cache, it would have the cache address listed as a peer. Since there were no other Callplus/Slingshot IP Addresses in the peers list, I'd say it was from peers.

How do you cache a torrent ?

My speed varies from 20 kbps up to 400kbps .........which is POOR because i'm paying for a FULL/128 plan (full speed dload, 128 upload).

I used to be able to watch streams from atdhe.net at night now it's lags badly , like i mean BADLY.

How are you guys getting faster speeds when i'm getting a slower one ?

Customer prefrence? im only paying 35 bucks per month (15gb) u guys pay 80 ish ?

They block your ability to connect to other peers and updating the tracker, and then connect as a peer with 99.x% of the file.

Only ever seen it work on public torrents, I dont know if they are seeing the peer connections or acting on the blocked tracker updates, but its really annoying when it will not connect and you are seeing a pathetic 30kB/s from the peer connections it has not killed off.

Yeah I have noticed my speeds decrease again whihc is a shame. Not as bad as it was on off peak. On peak is still better than it was though... or maybe I've just got used to slower speeds...

scuwp: Ever since joining Geekzone I have read virtually nothing but bad things about Slingshot. It amazes me they still have any business but I guess they have enough satisfied customers to keep the $$$ rolling in.

People seem to like bashing Telecom just because they are Telecom. But personally I have had nothing but reliable service from them. The grass in not always greener.

Given what I have read I wouldn't expect much of a resolution, other than changing ISP's.

Indeed i said the same thing a week later after signing up with slingshot from telecom
altho they are more costly CUSTOMER SERVICE from telecom is outstanding
compared to the *&$*# from slingshot.. speeds with them were of course faster as well

cant complain too much anymore they're cheaper which is way i moved
but there is there 'other' company that are cheaper than both these for homeline and broadband
which I am dying to sign up with hopefully next year!

p.s cheap is not best in this case! (;

Cheap is never the best, but cheap isn't a license to treat customers badly - they do.

dalboy: I didn't know how appalling the Slingshot speeds are until I talked to a?neighbor?and seen he was downloading at over 9000 kbs on Telecom , I can only manage 220 average and have seen a maximum of 310. I emailed and after no reply after a couple of weeks rang and finally got through after waiting 23 minutes. He said to do an insulation test because I should achieve more. I had to disconnect all my equipment so he could test the line. He said he couldn't ring my mobile as he was only a trainee and I had to ring back on my Mobile.?No answer after 15 minutes I was ready to explode.?When I finally got through on another day I got that guy from Egypt or somewhere and he told me the speeds I seen at my end were incorrect and from his end they could do no better. The fault must be at my end. This is full speed and I live 600 metres from the only exchange in town. Skype and Youtube are dubious at best.

Telecom is starting to look pretty good to me! Skype barely works, Youtube is a joke. Starcraft 2 is even dropping me from a lot of games now - NEVER happened with Vodafone...

Handsomedan: I've been with Slingshot for years and to be honest, it's always been mediocre.

I stay because I am not a heavy user of broadband and it's fine the way it is for me.

Ah but have you ever had to call support??

I can honestly say I don't have any issues with them. Skyping in 720p works nicely, YouTube is fast (they do have a cache after all), I can get around 10GB of data moved each night during the free off peak period (great for backups) and all my dealings with customer service (only a couple) have been fast and pleasant. I moved from Telecom and find the performance to be much the same, I just get more for my money now!
