Yes i was just going to post - ours came on close to 8pm on the day.

richms: tweeted but no answer yet. Im at work stuck covering in the shop so can't really call.

Edit: just had answer, might be up till 8pm so still no stress... yet ;)

Its a huge improvement in upload but I still think it could be a lot better. Will see how it goes after the jack swap and get a chorus job logged monday if not.

Ok, just as a quick test, I moved my Fritz over to beside the DSL jack and plugged in a standard short 'line' cable. No change in attenuation, but a MASSIVE drop in FEC errors!! Before the move I was getting 2000+ per minute, now it's down to 30-50!! CRC errors seemed to have sorted themselves out over the last 24 hours (still on the long extension), so I guess that's DLM doing it's job. Sync is now 40mbit (up from an initial 32 and 35 yesterday), but this is the first resync for over 24hrs so again, this could be normal DLM stuff.

I notice the Fritz is reporting my latency is 14-16 now, up from 8 initially which is disappointing, (it was 3-4 on ADSL2!) but I guess this may improve as DLM works it's magic (here's hoping!)

I'm going to make up a custom BT to RJ45 Cat5E cable now and then move the Fritz back to its original location.

Something else that also occurred to me was that I was using the line cable which came with the Fritz in it's original, as shipped, tightly wound state rather than unraveling and stretching it out fully. I wonder if this made any difference; perhaps I was generating my own crosstalk by doing this?

Right, new custom cable in - worked first time!! :D Attenuation has dropped to 9 which is good, but FEC errors are up! to ~70pm, but I guess this also depends on how much traffic is being pushed through at the time. Sync rate is and SNR are slightly lower, but I guess I have resynced twice this morning so DLM is backing off. So no dramatic improvements, but I'll leave it alone now and see what DLM does over the next week or so.

I've been trying to find some official documentation on how DLM works but haven't been able to find any. Does anyone know where I could get this?

On a slightly different topic, I noticed that on the Fritz, while the 'Overview' page lists the sync rate in Mbits/s, and the 'DSL' page shows kbits/s, the Mbits/s rate is not correct. For instance, my latest sync rate is 38496 kbits/s, but the Overview page lists 38,5 Mbits/s. This should actually be 37.5 Mbits/s. Then again, maybe I'm just being a pedantic geek :D

Not much to know about DLM really. It just switches between 7 different virtual profiles. These control just link delay,SNR and Inpulse noise protection. It will not back off sync or increase it with its current configuration.

The biggest changes in sync rate will be when the INP changes. 0 is off so this is when you will see higher sync rates and 4 which is the highest chorus set you will lose about 2-5mb/s.

Considering moving to Snap VDSL for a while now. Chorus SAT confirms VDSL availabilty and Snap says I can expect the following speeds:
Downstream (ADSL2) 15.5 - 15.9 Mb/s
Upstream (ADSL2) 1.2 - 1.3 Mb/s
Downstream (VDSL2) 18.4 - 18.8 Mb/s
Upstream (VDSL2) 7.6 - 8.3 Mb/s

I have an attenuation of 10.3.

Q1: With my like attenuation that high, are the speeds quoted realistic? I'm not too sure how accurate the Sanp tool is.

Q2: Are the speed gains worth the extra cost per month. I'm think about a 12 month contract as 24 months is way too long.

with that attenuation you should get around 30 Mbs down and 10-11 Mbs up , that is based on what other people are getting so i would try it, it should be worth it

Common sense is not as common as you think.

That looks very similar to mine before I did all my cabling changes. I think you may well be able to get better speeds as your error and attenuation levels are currently fairly high. If you're interested I'd recommend looking at your wiring etc and seeing if there's anything you can improve on that front as this seems to have made quite a bit of overall difference for me. Do you know how far you are from the cabinet?

I don't quite understand what you mean, aren't sync changes the whole point of DLM? Do you know how the DLM process progresses? Will it go back and re-try profiles it's already tried (since I've made some wiring improvements), or would I be better to ask for DLM to be re-started?

It should be fine. DLM will try those profiles again. Think the threshold is 4 days line uptime. If this is met then it looks at moving to a better profile.

Is it still changing profiles every night? It should eventually change once a week.

It's not doing an auto re-sync every night if that's what you're referring to, it did on the first/second night, but not since, but I have manually re-synced since then.

Do you mean it will change profiles once a week with DLM on or off (or both)?
