As a result, MyRepublic local network capacity is consistently more than what our customer base requires.

(I would expect all ISPs in NZ to do this anyway)

You are a funny guy.  If that happened, nobody would be complaining about speeds here, but I see countless complaints about speeds (especially peak times) in NZ, from customers of multiple NZ ISPs.

- Marc

there would still be heaps of speed complaints from people in these situations:

where they are testing over wifi which is congested  (very very common)
where they are testing at the same time as torrenting
where they are testing at the same time as backing up their computer to the cloud
where they are testing at the same time as downloading a windows update
Where they are testing at the same time as their flatmates are watching youtube.
where they are complaining about international speeds
Where the servers they are connecting to limit the throughput

From reading the threads on here, 9 times out of 10 it is one of the above situations.  The other time, we never find out.

You also forgot to include testing over congested copper network backhaul such as those connected to a Conklin or the legacy ASAM ATM network that is heavily congested in some areas.
Plus you didn't talk about poor wiring in their house impacting performance which has to be the most common post that PeterReader responds to.
Plus there is regional congestion in some areas with handovers from Chorus on EUBA & WVS to the RSPs.

All of that congestion is completely outside the control of the RSP.

I like you.  Those are all things that wouldn't apply to a fibre-only RSP.

We won't have the same problems as others, for a variety of reasons.  That's one of the many reasons why I think the experience on MyRepublic fibre will be different.  There's almost nothing that's not under our control with an LFC-provided fibre-only network.

The only congestion outside our control is GPON (and upstream issues, but we address that in other ways).  And when the most popular plan is 30 Mbps down 10 Mbps up on a 2500 Mbps down 1200 Mbps up network that can only hold 32 lines, congestion won't be a problem until gigabit plans become popular. And handovers shouldn't be an issue.  If you are running out of space on them, buy more.  Chorus has verbally indicated to me that they'd provide a 100 Gbps handover, but nobody is pushing enough to fill up 2x10Gbps on a single handover, so it isn't an issue.  Yet.  We are working on that.  Give us a little time.

I'd love nothing more than everyone in the country who is fibre-ready to go on the trial, at the same time.  And if it wasn't better than what they came from, they go back (they won't go back).  We would, even with 400,000 signups tomorrow, be able to provide the best experience in NZ.  Though the install times from the LFC would be delayed significantly, as they can't do that many at once.  But the bottle neck would never be MyRepublic.

Add to this that most "Gbps" routers are Gbps interface, and can't actually push through a Gbps.

I have a true Gbps router (Actually more then a Gbps) and it cost over $10k new.

Thanks Marc,

Can you say how long the trail offer is likely to last? I was looking at finally moving off ADSL2 and your intro pricing is very appealing, however I'm also going to disappear for a good chunk of Xmas when cutting services over is likely to be less than ideal, if for whatever reason things don't work out.

Well whoop-die (bleep) do..

I have a $12k L4 gigabit switch.

Geez you two must be seriously threatened in some way by MR.

Really time for admin to lock thread now.
Its no longer about the new services, its about a bragging match.... who has the most expensive router (no one cares),  who knows the most about Spark operation (again no one cares) and who can try and poke the most holes at a new player.

Gee GZ, how about we just criticise and deter ISPs having reps here.
Lets also bag any and all new players, not offer constructive advice and drive competition away...

what does that have to do with this point?

People have speed issues on Geekzone.  These speed issues are rarely related to RSP issues in the local network.  That is the point.

I have received quite a few complaints about the direction this topic is going.

I would like to point out that it seems some users posting here should have been more forthcoming with their affiliations.

I am locking this discussion. I am also creating a MyRepublic forum as well.
