September 2024 no news on eSIM for wearables and new devices coming to market
It only been over TWO years since the press release on the 22nd Aug 2022 advising "the next step is making eSIMs available on wearable devices”
It must be a pretty big step.... friends don't let friends sign up and give 2Degrees any money haha
Maybe with the launch of the new iDevices, it'll happen soon?

The only reason left as to why I am staying with 2 Degrees right now is pricing of the plan I am on. But even that is heading towards not being worth it - in general, their coverage has been worse including general experience of in store staff, web browsing, and services they offer just seem much worse than when I was on One NZ. Add to that the lack of communication around this whole eSIM thing and it's not looking like much of an attractive offering these days.
How hard it is it communicate to your customers? They've been noticeably absent around here in general.

Communication would be great here, however you must remember, there's still going to be some commercially sensitive issues that cannot be talked about in the public eye.
This is why you had the likes of me and a few others repeatedly saying "it will be ready when it's ready," when One NZ was struggling to get it out the door last year (and there was notable issues on day 1 that were quickly addressed thanks to the feedback we got) and the thread there got locked because much like in this thread, everyone's frustrated at not just the lack of communication but the same message is being said. It will be ready when it's ready.
Whilst I no longer work for One or any telco currently (still free to come back to the telco world 😉), may think I have some bias but with the insider knowledge that was current before I left this year, there's is a LOT that goes into a deployment including NDAs and commercial agreements. Don't want to give the other two any advantages. Maybe they're trying to make it even better (services and features). Who knows. Not gonna speculate.
I am a 2degrees customer and whilst I don't have an interest in wearables (I'm the wrong use case), it does suck that this is dragging on and 2degrees would be the last provider to get this out the door.
My off topic and other concern is that because the expectations are so high in this day and age... might have actually scared anyone from saying anything because they do not want to add to the further disappointment.
But that's my own opinion and as I said, I have no affiliations (in fact I work in a completely different sector).

Honest question…(with some IMOs)
why would the average punter want to load (with additional cost), an eSIM onto a watch when said watch just shares the connection with nearby mobile phone?
why would the average punter want to spend hours either on the phone or finding time and money to visit an ISP store to load or maintain an eSIM ?
I’ve been looking at one of those kids watch/trackers and the costs for running it are ok but could be better….i think if I was able to add an eSIM to my own plan with minimal cost without running a seperate plan then I might go for it.
*** would a wearable eSIM be much like dual number (like back in the day), would I be able to load the wearable plan eSIM onto my mobile with two sim slots so I can run one mobile phone instead of two (work and personal)?
and I reckon 2degrees haven’t figured out how people would buy/authenticate themselves eSims given I’m hearing from this very message board that other providers don’t let you do this online. (And also haven’t worked out how to sell these via their exisiting reseller and/or retailers like petrol, daries and supermarkets).

Linux:brightman: Perhaps 2 degrees have been waiting for the release of iOs 18 which brings support for RCS messaging..
@brightman RCS not related to eSIM at all. At a guess they are waiting for Apple approval
