cyberbuddha: I know now that the voicemail to email not playing is down to a bug in the voice platform, but what does that mean exactly?  And more to the point if it was not modem related, why was I told the update I receoved in March might fix it (which it didn't)?

I don't know the details of your conversation.  I do know we are aware of the problem and it's been flagged as something to be resolved in the future.

I just wish it would get fixed.

Me too!  And it will, but it's not trivial (or we'd already have fixed it).

Also, if that's the case that the version I have now, 1400, is not the best one to be using, is it worthwhile downgrading?

I wouldn't recommend downgrading.  It's not going to blow up or anything!

Thanks ubergeeknz, I'll look forward to 1201 is the .bin file available like the others on the Orcon site.

Hi, I saw the files yesterday somewhere, but I can't remember where.  I'll keep looking, but the later versions can be found here... http://games.orcon.net.nz/index.php?page=files

Cheers ubergeeknz, I look forward to the update. I have been with Orcon since 2004'ish so long standing and happy customer.

As for future releases make a page and post the .BIN files with a release notes and a feedback / suggestions link, the gamers will beta test them and let you know most of the issues, then get your testers to regression test the release for the 'non fun' bits Smile.

We do provide new firmwares pretty quickly for gamers as it is, I don't see us moving it up ahead of basic testing because of the fairly obvious support issues involved with having untested firmware out there in the wild.

The feedback idea I like the sounds of.  I'll see if we can do something with that.

As for release notes... hopefully there will be some improvements in that area.  Watch this space!

I agree the basic testing needs to be completed first so you don't end up bricking units.  From my experience communication is the key, it gets people involved and if implemented right may reduce calls to the support lines.

So thanks UbergeekNZ for looking at publishing the release notes and looking at feedback its great to know I belong to a proactive ISP.

As I see it there are big potential wins for you guys having an active community testing releases e.g. the beta testing programs from the likes of Firefox etc. I’m sure this will help you keep ahead of the curve with the changes that will need to be made with UFB being rolled out.

In essence, yes.  We will work in the next couple of weeks to "mop up" those that didn't upgrade.

I received my Genius Lite on Friday and of course ignored the instructions to wait for my VoiP phone service. After all, it's still an ADSL router and as it turns out, way better than the old seimens router supplied by Orcon back in the early days.

The Genius Lite was flashed with the 1201 firmware. So far, it is working very nicely as a router. Will need to see what it's like when running a phone service too.

cyberbuddha: At the moment I am still having voicemail to email issues... when you play them all there is is a loud white noise...

This issue is fixed, as of about 5 minutes ago :)  Obviously your old voicemails won't be fixed but all new ones should be A-OK.

Just left myself a test voicemail from my mobile phone.  I can hear the stuttered tones on the phone to indicate the message is there, it still has not made it to voicemail so I can't check it.  I will check by leaving a few more messages.  Here's hoping!

JUST AS I GUESSED, it is not fixed at all.  Have now left THREE voicemail messages, and I get only one to email and it still plays loud white noise.  Yes, I have kept the file, and yes, I will forward it to the man I have been dealing with at Orcon so they can continue (since last August!) checking it out!

I've been personally working on the fault for the last few days, and tested it myself since the fix went in, and had no problems.  So I must say I am intrigued that you are still having problems...

If you want to message me your email through here at work then I will happily forward you the Orcon voicemail email that I received so that you can play it for yourself.
