menabassily: Here is what I believe I have done:

I'm already on the $39 / month plan, I have signed to go for the $89 plan for 24 months and got the Galaxy S3 for free plus the following:
1- 1 GB/ month
2- 1 GB / weekend (Touch2Pay offer)
3- The normal $89 plan minutes (460 /month I think) etc
4- Free bus pass for the weekend (Touch2Pay offer)
5- 24 months phone warranty (wohhhhooooo)

So the terms and conditions says clearly that I CAN change back down to my original $39 plan after 6 months. Also to change from $89 to $39 you will pay fees of $110

That makes what I have paid for the phone = ($89 - $39) * 6 months + $110 = $410

I'm paying $410 for the phone, I am also selling my I9000 on trade me and so far it's auction went up to $360 and still running for another week :D so I believe with all the extras I am giving away with the phone I have a chance to sell it for $400 (as I am also offering free signature shipping if you pay $400)

This means I am getting the I9300 for $10 and with that I am getting free bus on the weekends, 24 months warranty and free 1GB for the weekend as well. Not to mention that by the end of the 6 months I will probably end up with thousands of unused monthly minutes HELL YEAH.

Sounds like a sweet deal to me :D

I'm not sure you've read and understood the T's & C's properly... I think it will cost you a lot more than that to get out after only 6 months.

Please tell me more ...

Yes, you mean this one. I have read it now, and I think I over estimated the total price ($410), as the $110 to change the plan to a $39 plan only applies if you do during the first 6 months, so now the new total is $300 only.

I'm not getting out of the contract, I am staying with them for 24 months, I am just changing my plan after 6 months.
So after reading this:

I've read it again and it looks like you're right.. it's much cheaper to change than just terminate. So after 6 months it's free to change plan? sounds too easy?

Exactly :) but remember they are giving you the phone and all those freebies just to tie you down with them for 2 years (sounds like marriage to me haha)

"Please note the early termination charges for the Free Smartphone Offer are higher than and replace our standard early termination charges set out at clause 24 (b) of the Pay Monthly Plan Terms and Conditions."

For me, I will stay with the $39 plan, I believe it's a good plan and it's the cheapest plan that offers free 1GB/month.

There is a lot of confusing info in this disucssions (maybe less confusing towards the end). I am keen to do this purchase but was hoping 2Degrees CustomerCare could confirm if what is discussed here is correct.

i.e. that you can sign-up for the $89 plan for 2 years and then after 6 months change it back to $39 without any additional charges. Talking to people in the shop they were even more confusing

If so I am off to buy a new phone.

If so I am off to buy a new phone.

It's all in the T's and C's, and if you talk to one of their salesmen there, they will explain it more. As long as there is no condition in their that you've signed up to the forbids you from changing down your plan, or a fee to be paid then you're fine.

What I can see from what I've read in their Terms and conditions is that you will pay a penalty and some fees to change your plan down only if done in your first 6 months.

If you want my advice, all you need is to make sure you get them before the end of July as the extra free bus and weekend free data offer page suggests. Also make sure there are phones left by asking the branches in Wellington.
