Nebbie: You would find that in most cases if a school is been upgraded the to UFB the cabinet will be missed as I don't believe it has any Ethernet ports so its limited to 8mbit ATM backhaul even if it did though chorus would not want to spend anymore money on these slow devices.

Whats the numbers of houses around your area? if your in a reasonably populated area you might have a higher chance of being upgraded.... but its theres just 3 or 4 places around you the chances are slim.

I see the point in Chorus not spending money on the old cabinets, but I would have thought they would put in new cabinets with the new tech in them where ever they have fibre. It would save them from having to maintain the old infrastructure.

Unfortunately we are rural / lifestyle blocks, so not many customers for them.

It's a familiar story - too little backhaul for the number of customers, and Chorus "have no plans to upgrade the service". They quite happily put more and more users on this old equipment, oblivious or uncaring of the hopeless service levels that result. I'll bet the local school is connected, receiving some kind of priority treatment (but still complaining about how slow it goes). It's a bugger, but there it is!

You will need to check if there is any wireless operator in your area, otherwise the VF RBI will be your answer. It's expensive, but trust me it's worth the extra cost to overcome the aggravation. Good luck.

Cheers,
Colin
